Scarletthorn Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 I have been playing RPGs for well over 20 years (probably a lot longer than most of you who read this are old). Started with the D&D game back when it was started and just continued from there. I really have enjoyed playing NWN and thought it was an absolutely fantastic idea. But, there were some major flaws that I thought could be rectified. 1. Scripting... I had a problem with this, as I am not a programmer myself. This language is foreign to me and try as I might, have failed to navigate it. I really would have like to have seen some more programming wizards that you could just add in the info into the boxes and have the wizard take care of the brunt of the scripting. 2. Borders... When creating an area, one must use the same old chasms and cliffs to block in a PC from wandering somewhere the creator does not wish. Their should be multitudes of boundaries from which to pick from instead of the same two or three items. 3. Gold and Henchmen ... Giving someone who killed a monster just a few coins of gold after the fact seemed like trying to squeeze toothpaste back into the tube... confusing at best. Also, trying to give a character a henchman, well, this might as well have been trying to buy a Lambourghini with a twenty dollar bill. It was impossible to do so without the thorough knowledge of scripting. Now, I am not trying to bash scripting in the least. I think it is a wonderful language that offers flexibility to those that know it well and can create for them a masterpiece module. On the other hand, for us who know how to use a computer, but have never got the hang of programming itself, making a module is like trying to climb Mount Everest with no legs or arms. I hope the folks at Obsidian are reading these posts and actually care enough to try and help those of us "behind the times" folks, so that everyone can create an awesome campaign for others to enjoy! As always keep your sword sharp, but your wit sharper ... SCARLETTHORN ...
