_wighnut Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Hi guys... i have a problem running kotor2. maybe this question has been posted earlier but not this way i think. i bought my kotor2 a few years ago, i played it on my old pc (winXP pro, SE2) whitout having probs. Now, years later, i wanted to play it on my new one. -Win Vista Home Premium (64bit) -AMD X2 Dual Core 4600+ -1 GB Ram (actually i would have 2, but one is currently reperature) -GeForce 7950 GT (I downloaded the ForceWare Release 162.22 from nvidia.com) Well, i installed the game without probs. after that i updated it via ingame-updater from 2.0 to 2.1. no probs either ok, and here is the problem. as soon as i start the game, the hardware-test stars running, and there is an error with my videocard. a deteiled hardware scan below: [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=08.09.2007 11:24:01 SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v2.10.427 GameInstallLocation= F:\\Programme\\LucasArts \\SWKotOR2\\ [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=None Status=Pass [swapFiles] ?:\\pagefile.sys=0 [CPU] CPUCount=2 CPUSpeed=2411 CPUFamily=15 CPUModel=11 CPUStepping=2 CPUVendor=AMD CPUName=AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=1024 Status=Pass [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=19.98GB E: (NTFS), UNICODE=80.85GB F: (NTFS), UNICODE=15.08GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=D:\\ Drives=TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D ATA Device [Video] Video Card Name= Video Memory=1024 Desktop Resolution=0x0x0 DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=2.1.1 OpenGL Vendor=NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL Renderer= GeForce 7950 GT/PCI/SSE2 NVidia Driver=(null) Vid Card Status=Warning Vid Card Driver Status=Fail GL Status=Pass DX Status=Pass [Audio] Sound Card Name=@oem6.inf, %ctaudio_device .dev2.amd64%;SB Audigy LS Status=Pass ;Game Options from swkotor2.ini [Display Options] FullScreen=1 Disable Movies=0 Disable Intro Movies=0 Sort Modules=1 Width=640 Height=480 BitsPerPixels=32 RefreshRate=60 [sound Options] Sound Init=1 Disable Sound=0 Force Software=0 [Graphics Options] EnableHardwareMouse=1 FullScreen=0 RefreshRate=85 Width=1280 Height=1024 Emitters=1 Anisotropy=1 Frame Buffer=1 Soft Shadows=1 Brightness=57 V-Sync=0 Texture Quality=2 Anti Aliasing=0 [Game Options] Disable Movies=0 [config] firstrun=0 ----------- my driver details: (hardware-manager) driver version: 7.15.11.6222 driver date: 07/06/2007 But the hardwarescan STILL shows me the error: Your drivers are out of date (or old or sumthin, i use the german version) NVIDIA Cards require the detonator-driver 45.23 or better (WHAT is the detonator-driver??? i obviously DO have the most recent driver, aint i ?! (OPEN GL test is OK) well, the seccond problem is: everytime i start the game whitout noticing the hardware test, following text appear: Please remove the disc and put the cd/dvd in another drive. WHY does this appear, my disc isnt scratched or sumthin, has this something to do with copy-protection???!! I would really appreciate if you can help me guys. Thanks
Nerdella Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Hi Sorry you're having problems - I had a similar error message appearing which said to put the CD in the drive (it was already in) but when I pressed the 'cancel' button the game started anyway and played OK. Did you try doing that?
dirty66 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 sweet...it would seem that obsidian skipped the pro series for vid cards....i have a ati card but i run the syscheck it says my nvidia drivers are out of date and it gives me a link to nvidia.
Zetya Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 This is exactly the same situation that I'm having difficulty with. I think the configuration utility assumes that MS Vista is MS NT/XP cause it is asking fot the detonator-driver 45.23 or better (I have Vista Home with a Nvidia card and I'm really sure it does not use the detonator driver) Anyway, I've isolated the problem and it seems based on the hardware scan of mine, there is OS and driver problems listed below (truncated to focus on the real issues): [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=None Status=Pass --------> Clearly the machine is currently running on Vista not WinXP [Video] Video Card Name= Video Memory=512 Desktop Resolution=0x0x0 DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=2.1.1 OpenGL Vendor=NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL Renderer=GeForce 7950 GT/PCI/SSE2 NVidia Driver=(null) Vid Card Status=Warning Vid Card Driver Status=Fail GL Status=Pass DX Status=Pass --------> Could not recognize the name of the video card even though OpenGL Renderer could clearly identify the GeForce 7950 GT [Audio] Sound Card Name=@oem55.inf,%bdadevice.devicedesc%;Ultima ATSC-LGMT Digital TV Tuner Status=Pass ---------> This is even more ridiculous.... my sound card is a SignaTel Audio not a ATSC-LGMT Digital TV Tuner So basically Im screwed and cant play this game unless I disable Sound and disable movies from the SWKotOR2 Configuration Utility. But then what is the fun in playing the game without sound or movies???? So now I've given up playing unless somebody could help out with this situation, then I will be very..very...vey grateful.
Zetya Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Never mind...I found the solution, replace the Mss32.dll from KOTOR 2 with the Mss32.dll from KOTOR 1 game dir. So far it worked for me. No problem ever since. Apparently there were some issues with the dll for Windows Vista.
