what happens if you ask the handmaiden to take you back to the telos academy.

She won't. Access to the hidden base situated around Telos polar region will happen when TSL's storyline allows it to, somewhere towards later half of game. Only that it won't be your character that Handmaiden and/or her sisters will be escorting back to hidden base on Telos.
