amesjustin Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Hello, I am a SQL Server DBA with 8 years professional experience in Orange County looking to break into the Gaming industry. I have had a huge passion for games of all types my entire life. I've assisted in and designed a few mods for games like Civ3, and am currently developing my own text-based browser game (and learning PHP/MySQL to build it). I have a few years VFP development, but not much else on the coding end outside of tSQL. Most people trying to break in are coders and graphic artists. My long term goal is of course to design games of my own, but I know one must "pay their dues" to get to that point. How would I, a professional DBA with very high gaming ambitions, get into the industry? TIA
alanschu Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Well, depending on your DBA experience, and your modding experience, it might be worth it to just apply for some open positions. Typical "pay your dues" ways in are to get involved in testing. Not a glamourous job to say the least, but depending on where you go it's not all that bad.
