Zimbardo had a dreadful experiment that he follwed through for many days. Its amazing to see these guys let the situation control them in a controlled setting even!

I remember studying Zimbardo's experiement in a Criminology class.

It made him a celebrity in the field, and changed the way research was conducted, specifically wrt informed consent and what defines an "ethical" experiment.

 

Anyway, my point was that the human mind may very well have powers beyond what we can explain at the moment (in fact there is a good argument that it takes something more complex to explain a complex phenomemon, so we may never fully map the mind, although I would argue that the human societal synergy would allow us to do it).
