Back in 2000, the Underdogs had an 11meg file for Lands of Lore I. It required nothing but download, click exe, enjoy. I've since lost that file, and LOL disappeared from underdogs for a long time.

 

Now I was back there looking, and very happy to see that it's available for download again, but now I need dosbox to run it. I've downloaded dosbox and got that up, mounted the directory with the lands of lore stuff in it, but I cant figure out how to start the game because there arent any executable files I can see. There's a whole bunch of LOLCD.### files, but that appears to be it.

 

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I need to play the game?

 

Also, I have an original Fallout I disc but it does not run on XP. Will dosbox also allow me to play it?

Thank you! I have DFend and am getting the LOL file from your link. I wasnt aware of the compatibility mod, either.

One more dumb question. Using DFend, I am able to get the install program working in dosbox but it wants to know what drives I am installing from and to. I have all the files on my C drive (my only harddrive) and it wont let me install to the same drive. Do I need to burn to a disc so that I can go from D to C?

You're using a virtual drive,right?

The profile asks for a game exe and a setup exe. I cant give the game file location until I get the install to run first, right? Otherwise I wouldnt know what to stick in there.

I think I remember installing it in XP.

Can this still be done using virtual drives? Cause it asks for disc 1 and I have no disc to give it.

I guess. I just installed it using Alcohol 120% to mount the CD.

 

When exactly did you get asked for CD1?

if I right click the install file in windows and do the prop->compatibility thing, then doubleclick it, it asks for disc 1.

 

I got it to "successfully install" using dosbox by mounting it on a drive R, then going from R to G (both completely made up.. but it wouldnt take C, said it couldnt create the directory on c drive).. but then when I get to the end where it says "Type LOLCD to run", I do, and it says "CD drive not found".

 

But hey, at least I'm getting closer.

Strange,I mounted the Iso on my Y drive and it works fine.

This one works well with Dfend, etc. Yay! One last issue to solve though.. once the game loads, the mouse will not move and pressing keys only causes the sound to deteriorate rapidly. Any thoughts?

Hmm. edit profile->general->auto lock mouse,should work.

Thanks, the mouse suggestion fixed that problem right up. There's an error in one of the files that causes it to crash upon choosing my character though, so all of this was seemingly for naught. I do appreciate the help though.

It's a pretty basic package,no voies,etc.

 

It has the Lands.exe and works well with D-Fend.
