Freezing and graphics bug

I'm having a huge problem with Kotor II. Generally when I'm in any sort of screen, the game will seem to 'freeze' for about 20-30 seconds. The music/sounds will continue, and I can move my mouse (sometimes it locks up too) but I can't interact with the menus. When it unfreezes, I can only see the teeth, eyeballs, and hair of models. The 'freezes' then become more constant. Sometimes I'll be able to get into the prologue of the game, but I've never been able to play it.

 

I have a 1.7ghz Sony Vaio with a GeForce 3 Ti 500 and 512mb of RAM. I have the latest drivers, and even tried the drivers that were out when the game was released. I have the latest patch for Kotor II and SP2. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
