Runs without Sound and Movie

The game only runs, when I disable the sound and movies. What can I do?

 

PC: 1,4 GHz AMD

512 MB RAM

GeForce FX 5700 LE

Amazingly enough my movies work, however they don't have any sound to them. Not that it matters anyway, the movies are crappy los-res.

 

One other problem I am having is that certain dialogues between my main character and NPCs just run through....like I don't get to pick my response the game just picks one and moves on....except it does the whole conversation in under 1 second.... I can always go back and check the message log to see what was said, and the conversations never seem crucial to role-playing the game or the storyline. Just an irritating bug.
