Shooting with left mouse click - randomly stops working

Periodically, when I am in the middle of a battle, my equipped weapon will stop shooting. I can aim, I can throw grenades, I can activate any abilities, however shooting or swinging with a melee weapon stops functioning. I can escape and go to menu and click items there, but then when I go back into the game itself, I have the same issue. I can click out of the game into another window, then click back into the game window and it doesn't fix it. When everything is working, I can still click in and out of Outer Worlds 2 to windows on another screen and back with no issues.

If I close out the game and re-enter, it starts working again. Any suggestions on things to adjust in the settings to prevent this?
