Tristan is below the ship, preventing quest progression (spoilers)

I'm doing Tristan's companion quest, and when boarding my ship from the space station after keeping Tristan from killing okam (or whatever his name is), I can see the quest marker on Tristan's head drop from above the first level right through the bottom of the ship. It's right were the ladder in the engine room is, like he started going down the ladder and did not stop at the bottom. When I run back there I can see aza and niles coming down the ladder overlapping, but they stop at the bottom.
