Wasn't able to enter my character name using the automatic on-screen keyboard during character creation. Pressing "Submit" (with my finger) or closing with "B" and pressing submit with "A" on the controller doesn't put the text into the game field.
I'd guess it would be best to use the floating version since it can send the keystrokes directly. However, whichever version is being used, I'd expect it to be single-line entry rather than the current multiple-line entry.
The single line mode would allow R2 to dismiss the keyboard rather than having to use the "Submit" button. And return characters don't make sense in the character name anyway.
I was able to manually bring up the keyboard using Steam+x to input the name since that just emulates keystrokes real-time (i.e. floating keyboard).

Not certain which API function is being used, ShowGamepadTextInput or ShowFlaotingGamepadTextInput
