Windows 11 Pro Multiplayer Crash - Not single player

Recommended Posts

Hello, After going through forums, many installs, uninstalls, workaround trials, finally at the point of posting.

Description: Hosting or joining multiplayer crashes within 3 minutes or instantly. When hosting, either crashes immediately, or very close to suitcase opening scene. When joining multiplayer, crashes within 3-5 minutes. Always crashes direct to desktop with no error codes. Single player runs perfectly with zero issues.

Platform: Steam (with Xbox app linked).

Operating system well above requirements: Windows 11 Pro 64bit | Intel i9-12900 12th gen | Nvidia RTX 3080

Solutions tried and failed: Forcing DirectX11 through launch options, Running game in windows 8 compatibility, Multiple installs and reinstalls of game and xbox apps, all drivers up to date.

Frustrated and hoping for a solution. Thank you.

Not able to help but am having the same issue! Only difference is I use the Xbox app. We've also tried uninstalling the Gaming Services through Powercell, Uninstalling ALL Xboxs apps and signing out first, gone thought and manually deleted all files from the game. Between a friend of mine, my husband and I we have looked at just about every tip and trick out there. Single player loads fine and Grounded is the only multiplayer game that crashes like this on me. I've been at it for about 11 days now, and we're all frustrated. I have also checked all my drivers and updated EVERYTHING on my computer that I could. As well as we even tried installing to a different location. Following in hopes of getting somewhere with you!

Glad I am not alone! A quick kudos to the Obsidian Support Team. After posting here, I submitted a support ticket and they reached out to me. We are going back and forth on suggestions on fixes (nothing working yet), but if something does work, I will post here with the workaround/fix.

Thank you.

Hello, For those following this thread, I exhausted all workaround/fix solutions that the Obsidian Support Team indicated me to try.  Thier next steps was to, "forwarding this information over to our teams for further investigation."

At this point in time, I can only be patient, and hope that a future Grounded Patch or new Windows/Nvidia/Xbox update somehow fixes the problem.

Thank you.

I was having the same issue. I have applied the following solutions to two different PC using Windows 11 and it has fixed crashing issues. Not sure why it works but I was trying everything possible until I found a solution.

FIX: -Run your Grounded and select the graphics setting you desire but turn off V-Sync and Chromatic Aberration. Apply config and quit the game.

-Open the config folder for the game Xbox install located: C:\Users\XXXXXX\Appdata\Local\Maine\Saved\Config\WinGDK\GameUserSettings.ini with notepad or notepad++

-Top of config file;

sg.ResolutionQuality=100.000000
sg.ViewDistanceQuality=3
sg.AntiAliasingQuality=0
sg.ShadowQuality=3
sg.PostProcessQuality=0
sg.TextureQuality=3
sg.EffectsQuality=3
sg.FoliageQuality=3
sg.ShadingQuality=3

-Set "sg.AntiAliasingQuality=0" and "sg.PostProcessQuality=0" both to 0 and save the config file

-If you make any changes to your display settings after doing this you will have to go back into file and change to 0 again.

I have no idea why this works but I have had no crashes since doing this on both machines.  This also removes the blur effect for the distance and allows you to see a lot further (added bonus).

I hope this fixes your issues.

Anybody find a solution? Same problem as OP. Tried everything I can think of for the past week.
This issue isn't just limited to Grounded for me - I also have the issue with State of Decay 2 (steam). It only crashes on multiplayer, not single player, and both these games use Xbox Live for the servers and are both in Unreal Engine 4
