Are eating reactions bugged?

It seems like the characters are always complaining about eating ordinary foods like acorn bits or granola bars, as if they are choking down something disgusting. Meanwhile they are devouring entire aphids saying stuff like “I’d normally eat this”. 
 

I’m just wondering if this is a bug. Like a swapped conditional in the code or something that reverses the intended reactions.
