Ranged weapon bug on Xbox One

After about 25hr of play suddenly I can't use ranged weapons. I used to have Eder or Aloth in scouting mode go ahead and get a shot off with arquebus or war bow to initiate combat when I first saw a baddie. Now when I click attack, the character just walks up to the baddie and stands there getting whacked. Have reloaded the save game a few times and restarted the Xbox but it doesn't help. I loaded a save game from 5hr earlier and everything works fine but I don't want to have to repeat those 5hrs. Any ideas how to fix this bug?
