A sandbox has been mentioned before, but i just want to highlight what i really find interesting with such a biome. 

Massive excavation!!! I emagine moving a lot of sand with pullies, wheelbarrows and structural engineering decision making.    

Dynamic sand that has to be secured with scaffolding and stem Walls to really get that mining experience. Sand "weight" pressing ind on the walls (would also be a nice effect in other situations, when spiders and ladybugs are pressing against your house - instead of the random leg clipping through the wall)    

I dont know what resources could be scattered as a reward, but i would love some toy "statue" or upside-down bucket (tempel) that you slowly reveal inch by inch
