Confusing waypoints

I want to like Outer Worlds, I love all of the Fallout games, the only one I didn’t complete is Fallout NewVegas...  the reason?  The waypoints become so confusing, maybe I don’t understand why they work so differently than the Bethesda games.  So far in Outer Worlds, I am having the exact same problem...  A waypoint will count down as it leads me to some door and when I go through, the waypoint then points back at the same door like I need to go back out.  Seriously, could someone please explain what is going on with that?  it drives me crazy, I can’t seem to make any sense of it.  I don’t want to get frustrated and quit this game like I did Fallout NewVegas.
