My first hour

I'm playing on the Xbox and although I'm enjoying the game, it's kinda frustrating for me. I wish there was a better way to access the inventory rather than hold down left bumper. The UI and trying to navigate the crafting menus and inventory is not comfortable. I expect to press the bumpers to change tabs rather than the triggers. I'm also playing on the normal/easy difficulty. That being said when I first built the pebblet axe and spear, I felt the weapons were a little too weak for the ants and spider or the animation for the spear was too slow. I tried to build a little camp next to the Mysterious Machine. But during building it a wolf spider came and it kept on attacking me. I also still don't feel comfortable with spiders. I have it arachnophobia mode all the way up to level 5 and it's still intimidating for me.
