Black screen flickering while in towns, on steam link

TheDipsmack

Question

I have a rasberry pi connected through a wire connection running the steamlink app. Steamlink works fine with every other game, but on PoE I get flickers every 3-5 seconds. It's very disrupting to the gameplay. Happens only on the link monitor (TV), not on the host.

When I say flickers, I mean the screen goes black and then quickly comes back to the game.

The strange thing is it only happens while I'm in a town, or somewhere that has more than one character. Doesn't happen on the map, or when I'm in the boat. The flicker is not limited to just the game either, it also happens on the menus when you pause the game, or bring up the big picture menu. But again, all of the only happens when I'm in an area with other characters.

Solutions I've tried:

  • Updated gfx drivers (nvidia geforce GTX 1080)
  • verified integrity of game cache
  • set big picture mode to "windowed"
  • lower all graphics to lowest
  • toggled on and off fulscreen/windowed within the game's settings
  • changed resolution of host computer
  • restarted both machines
  • disabled "adaptive v-sync" in nvidia control panel

Any ideas why this would be happening? Thanks!!

Supposedly there are problems with Nvidia cards and if anything is broke then don't expect it to get fixed because apparently they aren't supporting it.  They do however have a list of "solutions" and I'll be trying them out...hopefully they work.

I'm having similar black/green screen crashes but I don't have an nvidia card.  The funny thing is all my other games are working well without any issues Modern Warfare, PoE 1, Fable Anniversary, and etc.

Those of you coming to this thread with similar problems: I was able to fix this issue by disabling hardware encoding on the host computer. Turn off remote play, go to your host computer:

Steam > settings > remote play > advanced host options > uncheck everything related to hardware encoding.
