Solutions

    Starting steam with
     
    STEAM_RUNTIME_PREFER_HOST_LIBRARIES=0 steam
     
    worked around this problem for me.
     
     
     
     
    edit: this is probably not related to specific GPUs, but rather the version of libraries in distros. I'm personally running Fedora 27, and have this happen on both Intel and AMD GPUs.
