  1. I played the IE games, enjoyed them and considered them great games.  However I think PoE is better.  Good story, fun characters, even combat is good IMO.  Sure there are things that could be improved, things that have already been improved and more to come.   I also have played several of the other games mentioned that were not D & D games.  PoE has made me very happy.

  2. I think it's just bad marketing.

If they had said "we're making two expansions", everyone would have been happy. But they said "We're making one expansion divided into 2 parts", so everyone is complaining.

Considering the trends these last few years, that change in wording could have made a big difference.

It may be bad marketing in other countries but I don't think it is in the USA.  We are used to things like that.  TV commercials drive me up a wall, telemarketers are a curse upon the land.  Obsidian is a USA company and thinks USA not UK, Europe or Japan, etc.

It is one Expansion not two expansions.  I am quite happy with that and have no problem with it.  I think I would have been concerned if they had called it two expansions.

  3.

So technically for backing up tier with first +expansion I will end up paying more... . Exp was +$20 so if I buy part #2 I will end up at $35 vs $25. So much for incentive to back :(

Unless somehow this includes Part 1 & Part 2 (which would make sense since part 1 of expansion pack is just...a part of it)

Part 1 & 2 are included together for backers who paid for that stretch goal.  That is part of the reason I think the expansion is being called part 1 & 2 rather than simply expansion 1 and expansion 2.  One expansion in two parts.

Rosveen beat me and said it better and simpler.

Nakia I have heard from several people that you are an extremely wealthy American....will you buy me both expansions in the interests of spreading that Capitalist revenue?

I believe it will  make you feel much better knowing you are helping those less fortunate and remember " in life its better to give than to receive "

    1) Fact-  We had a bad recession which hurt a lot of us here in the land never paved with streets f gold but it did have oportunity and the bankers, wall street people and politicians make use of that opportunity.

    2) The people who told you I was a rich American were joshing you.

    3) If I was an extremely rich person I would hire Obsidian to write a game for me.

    4) Yes I am a very fortunate person but not in dollars or pesos or Euros, whatever.  I have good friends, and at an age that would blow your mind if I told you so I won't I am in good health, happy almost content and grateful for having had a beautiful life with all its ups and down.  Life is to be lived it is never long enough.

Sorry Obsidian got all my spare change and some that wasn't so spare.

    Have a nice day.

"I will not rant about the USA economy or politics in the PoE forums."  One thousand times.

You realize  I was just joking  :p

I work for a global American software company and I travel to the USA at least 1-2 times a year so I'm  well aware not all Americans are rich...I assumed you knew I was joking but it seems sometimes on these forums some  people are unable to tell the difference when I joke and think I'm being serious  and get offended ...and the people who I do like, like you, I don't want to get the wrong idea about me and think I was being rude or malicious

Yes, I knew you were joking and my answer was supposed to be taken in the same spirit.   Guess it came across too serious.

and at an age that would blow your mind if I told you so I won't

Now I'm intrigued. The only age that I haven't seen yet and so could blow my mind is less than 12 or more than 90.

Wouldn't bother you then.  I am over 12 and haven't hit 90 yet.      I' getting there though modern science is awesome.

That post indicates that you have the option to buy one part or both, soooo... neither of you win

    I disagree. The case was:

As far as I know, they are only charging one price for both parts.

They don't. THey are charging both separately and gave option to buy them in bundle. So it's not like buy part 1 and get part 2 when it comes out. You need to buy part 2 separately or in bundle beforehand.

The relevance of my post you question is that I have seen hundreds of post were non-backers seem to think that those of us who backed a game got some kind of special privilege.  Yes we had the privilege of paying for a game we very much wanted and we placed our faith in Obsidian to give it to us.  We took a chance and we made the game possible .

As for your post that I have quoted here, yes they, Obsidian and Paradox could have made it a one price buys both parts.  Would you like to bet what the price for the bundle would have been?   That is my evil smile icon which I am currently wearing on my face.

Yep. I'm quite sure people who paid for the expansion on KS, for example, get both parts.

    Wanna bet?

    Sure.

    So... http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/81079-the-white-march-expansion-price-revealed-15-per-part-25-for-both/

Thank you for placing your bet, unfortunately the house wins

You kinda lost that bet. You wanted to bet with person who said that KS backers will get both parts. And that is true.

:sigh:  Do you   Sharp_one, realize that Obsidian does not receive the full amount charged for the game or for the expansion?  Kickstarter was a gamble on both the part of Obsidian and of those who backed the game.  Backers == freeloaders it seems.  Non-backers == suckers who are being penalized so it sounds.

I am going to point out that without the donations from backers their would be no game to make an expansion for and it fact it is possible that there would be no Obsidian.  (Pats self on the back with great pride and sends virtual pats to all other backers)  A little personal note here.  When I backed the game I was not even certain I would live to play it.  I backed because I believe this type of game is important and should be supported.  There are backers who cannot play  the game.  I knew online some of them and it saddens me that they are not here to enjoy this marvelous game but maybe they have found an even better one elsewhere.

  8. Thanks, Rosveen, for correcting my miss post and explaining about the announcement of the release date.

People who are on limited income, Elderly, Students, unemployed or disabled may find it more advantageous to buy the Part 1 expansion then shell out for both parts.  Also people who don't like to buy a pig in poke.  I was hoping for December myself.  Of course I have already bought the pig but if it is a tasty as the base game I am happy.

$14.95 for Part I, $24.95 for both together (USD).

    Part II requires Part I.

    An expansion expansion?

As I understand this if you buy Part 1 it is 14.95 USD then if you decide to buy part II it is another 14.95.  If you buy both parts at the same time the total cost is 24.95 USD.  You will need part I in order to play part II.  You save $5 but Part II will not be out for eight months

    according to report.

Edit:  Old game sell for small amounts because they are old games.   Over the past ten years I have been paying $20 for expansions so I don't think the price is unreasonable.   I value a game or an expansion on a one to one basis.  If I get 1 hour of play for $1 I pay I feel I have gotten my money's worth.

    Corrected a price misposting error.

  10. A co-op game would be fun if I had friends playing the game in time zones close to mine but my friends are spread across the globe.  I have tried some co-op game playing and it usually falls apart after a few weeks. My guess is that Paradox Interactive has the resources to do marketing research and night have a say in this.  The devs have mentioned a a vague possibility that multiplayer option might be considered for a sequel.  However multiplayer is not the same as co-op but would probably have broader appeal.  I would be very sad if the game went multiplayer it just would not be the same type of game.  I never played the multiplayer versions of the IE games so can't judge them.  I did use the feature to create my own characters but we have that already.

So I'm still at the first town and have explored a few of the surrounding areas. I've run into an issue...

I accidentally killed the entire inn to include the innkeeper in the first town. I've also run out of firewood and the blacksmith hasn't had any for sale in awhile now...

My entire group is low health, with one of them have 1 health and being useless. But I'm unable to rest at the inn without the innkeeper and I can't find any firewood anywhere. Trying to go further ahead results in death because everyone is so fatigued...

    What should I do?

    Just go to another INN?

There isn't any other inn until you get to Act II.  If the OP hasn't picked up the supplies in Valewood there is some hope there otherwise it looks like a restart.  Wait do you have a save prior to killing everyone in the inn?  If you do then you can start over from there.  Can't think of anything else.

  12. I am sorry Chris Avellone has left Obsidian but not I am not concerned about PoE.  I think the overall writing is excellent.  Whoever wrote Eder's part is a genius.  It is not easy to write about a simple farmer and make him an interesting and fun person.  Durance and Grieving Mother are more complicated people but Eder is the one I want watching my back or just to chat with around the campfire.

I wish Mr. Avellone the best.

It almost seems that they want to keep us from creating pure tanks anymore.

Which might be a good thing, I never felt so inclined to create characters without any offensive ability in BG oder Dragon Age Origins.

The problem is that devs are wasting resources on something which is not a problem.

Fighter's Defender was a problem? Have i miss a memo?

Not sure what was purpose of the change, but the result will be: Fighters will be skipped from part outside RP reasons. There will be more place for monk or Barbarian.

Maybe that is the idea, they are planning new Monk and Barbarian companions, and want Eder to pass into shadow to let new stars shine. ;-)

And the final result will be setting on full caster party just as easiest way to play.

If that is their aim that is sad.   I know there is no way the devs can make everyone happy but this rebalancing could well make a lot of people unhappy.  I am not interested in playing a full caster party.   I like being able to choose who and what I want to play.  Are they, the devs, trying to star the new monk character from the expansion?  He will never replace Eder in my heart.  :)

  14. They should have released it with the spell bug. After all it's a beta and only some people will install it.

I disagree.  If you know a program has bug you fix the bug before making a public release of any kind.  OE has no control over my computer or any software I have installed.  It is quite possible the bug they have could break my game thus frustrating me and thereby aggravating unnecessarily a customer and backer.  They do not need to allow us to participate in the beta.  That is a courtesy they grant to those who wish to do so not an obligation on OE's part.  Yes, it can be helpful to them but it can I am sure also be a pit of a pain when they get people reporting false bugs.

BAdler is keeping us informed let us give him the same respect that he is giving us, please.

  15. I don't understand if you lie and are believed why would she attack you?  To me it makes sense that if you then wish to attack her you would use force attack.  Why have it in the mechanics if you never needed or wanted to use it?  Reputation builds on what you do or say.  My current character is known as an honest person so can get away with an occasional lie.  Which seems reasonable to me.

A Rosbjergs says time is important and is a limited resource.  Some things may be overlooked or just not be considered important.  Also the more complicated the scripting the more chance of a bug creeping into the game.  There are times when less is better.

  16. Please, BAdler, don't feel you have to push the update beta out because of our impatience.  Most of us know or shouldknow that development is not a simple job and that any change made can introduce a bug.  Which is why when I see people constantly requesting changes I get both annoyed and nervous.  Sure there are some things that I might like added or changed but if they are worth doing they are worth doing right.   Hopefully there will be a sequel and some of the good suggestions that people have made will be incorporated into that.  Now the important thing to  me is to have a stable game that I can enjoy.  PoE is a great game.

Thank you to all the hard work the OE developers have done and are doing.
