  1. I can't seem to use the Epic Games launcher. I keep on getting an error message that tells me that I missing the file.... api-ms-downlevel-kernal32-12-1-0.dll .... and that I should reinstall it if I want the launcher to work. I, of course, have no clue what this is, where it is _supposed_ to be, or how it came to be missing. In the meantime, I can't get into my Epic Library (it's on the _other_ side of the launcher) to check out the new Murder On Eridanos DLC. Any help on how I can rectify this problem ASAP will be GREATLY appreciated.
  2. "CaptainPatch" across the Internet.  67, early "retired" (involuntary) in 2009.  Have been enjoying my extended "vacation" these last ten years.  LOTS of time to spend playing games and pontificating on mostly political oriented forums.  (Liberal/Progressive to a nauseating degree.)  Been involved with games going back to 1977 when I worked for TSR (of AD&D infamy).  Ran a game-centric store in Chicagoland and did extensive gametesting, betatesting, design consulting for numerous companies.  Used to do game reviews for HookedGamers.com (until they sold their integrity by posting postive-only reviews for site advertisers).  These days I prefer to be more consumer than evaluator.... which doesn't keep me from speaking out on forums like this one.

  3. My internet has a tendency to cut in and out; more in than out TG. Starting gameplay is just a matter of beginning when the connection is there. And usually by the time I quit, there will once again be a connection there, so the Cloud gets EVERYTHING for the entire period of play. But this time..... I was playing today from @1:30 to @9 p.m. But when I came back at @10 p.m., and started the game again, I got an error panel saying Cloud synching had failed. I was given only TWO choices to start the game: 1) synch to the Cloud to retrieve the Save game from @2 p.m., or to download a Save from about 8 p.m.. I figured I would update the Cloud by sending up my Save History from my hard drive.... which turned out to be a problem. The Epic Games launcher started the synching process, but then _immediately_ froze. I had to reboot the PC to break out of the freeze. But after rebooting, when I started the game again, it powered up okay. HOWEVER, when I used "Continue", what I got was that Save from back around 2 p.m., thus losing 6 hours of gameplay. Checking the Saved Games list, nothing shows after 2 p.m. I have to wonder what happened to all the "hard" Saves that for every other game out there would be ON MY HARD DRIVE. But if they are there, Epic doesn't seem to be able to "see" them. All because I was experiencing Internet interruptus during a gaming session. From what I have seen, A LOT of consumers are not at all happy with Obsidian's decision to use the Epic Game Store as the method to launch their new game. After this experience, I am inclined to stand with them. I sincerely believe that overall, consumers would have been MUCH more satisfied if Outer Worlds had been distributed through Steam.
