    What's the incentive for using new companions rather than advanced old ones?

    I have just got a new companion joining my party, only to find that even though the character is my level, it has no abilities/skills... What's the incentive for using new companions rather than the well developed old ones? -- updated -- sorry, they do get skill points, it just took some time for the level up to trigger
