    how do you remove certain mesh from characters.unity3d?

    I am trying to swap head meshes between moon godlike to human. but moon godlike doesn't have eyelash mesh so I have no meshes to swap for and in game lashes look hideous. I tried removing eyelash mesh file but the game stops working properly if I do that. How do I remove the mesh file safely?
