  1. Something that bother me with this kind of game is you need to play with a guide because depending how you handle quests, the rewards/incomes vary, you absolutely can't just...just play the game, you have to do it with a god damn guide unless you want to savescum or make 10 different playthroughs and test everything to see what you need, that's just not possible.

I've just tried to run a quest without checking any guide, just to see how it will go and it's ended as i was expecting, i've got a reward which i don't need but if i did handled the quest the other way i'd get what my character would need.

I already noticed that in several games, i think it's a major game design issue imho, The Witcher 3 had the same problem for example.

That's funny because those kind of games promote immersion/role playing, but their game design just break everything.

And it goes the same for quests orders which can block you from doing some other quests.

Right now i'm a bit tired of POE1 because i have to check every god damned quests to see their rewards and how to get them, i just can't just play the game and use ingame information to know what i'm going to get.

Hi, no, you have to defeat enemies before they knocked down your allies.
But maybe you can engage other hirelings for the battle and pick the special guests just after the encounter.
Or you can manage the encouter as an automatic one.

Yes, I think fampyr charme last for entire duration even if the caster has died, but liberating/suppress affliction could be a bug indeed.

Well hirelings litteraly die when the fight begins, i haven't the time to cast anything they are already dead (for some of them, like the Glanfathan Soul Hunter and Dunryd Psion), i have Caed Nua defenses encounter everytime, so i can't hire them after, because there will be other encounters just later.

Regarding Fampyr's charms, yeah i keep casting liberating/suppress but the charm stay on the character's portrait and come back a few seconds after (the caster is already dead but the charm keeps running despite removing it), i have to run away and wait the charm wears off, it's really annoying.

  3. Hi,

Regarding stronghold hirelings, anyway to keep them alive during Caed Nua defenses (not talking about the Yenwood fight) ?

They keep diying every single encounter, i try to withdraw them to save the weakest but most of the time i haven't finished casting they are dead, i'm hired only special guest hirelings so it's quite annoying to lose them, no way to take them out of fights and let me handle them by myself ?

Regarding Fampyrs, their charms keep running after i've defeated them, is it intentional or bug related ? Liberating/suppress affliction don't remove the charm completely.

My advice would be to use survival for the accuracy bonus (if you know which enemies you will face). It's the biggest impact a skill can have in PoE by far. Like... fighting a dragon with +8 or even +12 accuracy makes a huge difference, especially of you want to CC the beast (see Charm/Dominate).

In case you will be facing kith or you just don't know what's going to happen then the healing bonus is an okay alternative imo.

Yeah but ennemies are different, i've used ACC bonus for the early game but i don't play with it anymore, you have to keep resting everytime to switch creature type, it's just plain annoying, i just go for healing bonus on tanks and damage reduction on DPS.

Hi, sorry - given that this build was written in 2016 I don't remember the details anymore.

Usually I wrote down the values from the in-game character sheet after finishing the playthrough and I tried to exclude per-rest and item bonuses and such in order to get the "base" value, but maybe I missed something here.

Or it may be because I copy-and-pasted the formatting template from another build and forgot to alter all values (like Lore for example). Survival 14 is very high. Nowadays i personally would try to get to 8 (iirc this is a threshold that allows for the next tier of ACC bonus when resting) and then let it be. 14 may be overkill - unless you are like me an don't ever use consumables, then you can skip all Lore  entirely and put everything into Survival. Athletics is unnecessary imo bc. of Lay on Hands.

I see, yeah i think i'll sit at 8 survival for the 40% heal bonus and bump lore/athletism, thanks.

  6. Thanks both of you, well, i tweaked a bit my team, and planning now to go with 1 paladin tank and 1 chanter tank as frontliners (sacred immolation + dragon trashed) and keep the same dps/cc backlane as mentionned.

I noticed that damages were required on tanks to keep aggro (fighters keep losing aggro despite having good damages but no AOE), so i though using 2 tanks that can deal decent AOE damage would be a good option (unfortunately those abilities come later).

I also went on 3 CON/RES on DPS/CC char', basically all my backlane has dumped CON/RES, it's perfectly managable on POTD just the early game which can be a bit tricky, sometimes my wizard get one shoted from a necrotic lance.

My tanks stats are the following : 18/10/3/14/18/14, having 10 con on paladin/chanter is a bit annoying early on regarding their health/rest.

Maybe you see this note about "Rogue Knight" quest:
    https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Rogue_Knight#Notes

It never happens to me, in any case pay attention to not do too much quest related to a faction opposed to the one you want join with before you allied with one faction. After you complete both the two quests of a faction, you can do any quest the game allowed.

Yup exactly this note, i did the quests i wanted and still was able to complete "The Bronze Beneath the Lake" without trouble.

    Thanks.

  8. Hi all,

I'm building a full custom party and trying to figure out the base perception i should aim for a confortable playthrough, i was about to go 12 base perception for everyone and get the +3 perception from Caed Nua bonus rest, my team will be heavy CC oriented and damage output.

Will 15 perception enough along with buffs/CC or should i need higher perception ?

In case you're wondering my team will be : 1 fighter tank/dps, 1 barbarian dw aoe cc, 1 shapeshifting druid, 1 priest (usual buffer/healer build), 1 cipher (ranged blunderbuss CC) and 1 wizard (CC/dps).

  9. Hello everyone,

I'm a newcomer to Pillars and trying to run some early quests for the factions mentionned in the topic title and wanted to know if i can run those without earning too much reputation before "siding" with the one i'm aiming at ?

I'm gonning to side with the Dozen mainly for Cladhaliath spear (or maybe i can get it without siding with the Dozen ?) but regardging the quest "The Bronze Beneath the Lake" it's going to lock my from other factions' quests so i want to run the ones i can before it happens.

Btw sorry for my english, it isn't my native language.

Hey (you bunch of phenomenal gamers)

    My recommended playthrough is;

Complete Act 1 (1v1 the bear, it is ones test to become a man/woman)

Progress through Act 2/Od Nua until character level 7

Enter the White March Pt.1 (no scaling)

Transition into the White March Pt. 2 (no scaling)

Return to Dyrford around level 11/12 to complete Act 2/Od Nua

    Begin Act 3 (with scaling)

    Complete the game

High five yourself for being so awesome

    The smiles will be unlimited

EDIT: I wouldn't worry about hitting all the content in Act 2. There is a lot. Splitting it 50/50 into two playthroughs will help you to 'not' pass up the EXP curve of the game.

Dunno how you guys are doing WM1 at level 7, i am level 7 and my 3 tanks die in like 10 seconds, dunno if it's realted to the "scaling" stuff, i don't see any option to tweak that.
