Shmaded

I am wondering if this is a bug, something unique to me, or something unique to supernova mode. I have picked up some stellar gear I want to save for companions when I get them. However on the PC I can't seem to store anything in lockers on the ship or anywhere else and i am basically encumbered. So I am wondering if there is something I am missing when it comes to storing gear or do I first have to get the ship turned on and the only place I can store stuff is in the captains cabin? I have seen numerous articles about being able to store things easily in the console editions. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks! Edit: I found lockers i can transfer gear to in some areas in the world, just no idea why it wont work on the ship.
