  1. It's hard to predict. Damage-wise looks good in the tool tip but I was rarely successful with it. The lvl 2 priest ice beam is a good bounce spell to practice with where you won't kill your team. If you can get that to not hit your people maybe you can get lighting to work. Also maybe if you have high reflex/damage resist/hp tanks up front that you don't care if they get hit maybe it's useful.

  2. Not related to the most recent question, but it's an effective micro tactic to maximize the damage from Ectopsychic Crush, which has the highest DPS potential by far of any Cipher ability. Use Going Between (fast cast) on a tank, offtank, or ranger pet to maximize the beam - he should be able to survive disengagement attacks. There are other +movement options like gear/talents/and other abilities but +3 seems to be plenty. You can also air drop a summon behind enemy lines to anchor.

  3. I play on POTD with a Cipher MC and all mercenary party. All my chars have 18 MIG/DEX/INT and 3 RES. I micromanage combat and my cipher has done twice as much damage as the 2nd place character which is a monk. It's rare a fight lasts long enough to get off a chanter invocation. I love the mechanics in spite of the quirkiness, but am hoping combat is more challenging in POEII (I'm not in the beta).

  4. With a chanter's flame lash chant, Cipher silent scream is okay (can crit for 150 4m rad), but their foe only beam is even better, can crit 100 damage every second. Beam is passive so you can melee or silent scream or whatever after you get it up. Priests (stacking dots), Wizards (prismatic wall, blast pike spell or blast implements), and Druid (stag form w/ the lvl 8 lightning buff) have some powerful AoE options too. All 4 of these classes can spike higher dps than the chanter dot, but the problem is you have to press buttons and time things.

  5. (POTD) Have done as Cipher using antipathic field w/ bow and Ranger w/ bow and bear companion. Ranger had to bottleneck on bridge. Cipher was harder, took a lot of luck. You can start fight by having Calisca using knockdown on Odema, one of his guards, or Heodan - which makes her leave the party but they keep attacking her.

  6. With resources working on POE2, I wouldn't expect something like this to be changed, nor have I seen a comment.

The in-game description of 1/enc is too underpowered to make it worthwhile.

How it actually works is situationally overpowered. Overall, it doesn't come it to play much, but when it does it's tide turning.

I take it without taking the extra damage talent brutal backlash, but if it was to be changed to 1/enc I would not take it.

  7. First off, can you have multiple beam spells active on the same foe target? If so, would I be correct in assuming the beam spells must be different (e.g. can't have two Rays of Fire active on the same target)?

Ciphers can cast 2 different beams on 2 different targets on the same time. However, they cannot have 2 of the same beams active at the same time. Mechanics are probably similar for Wizards, but as Caliscia says, "No promises".

Second, does Combusting Wounds trigger from Beam damage?

It should because beams are not DOTs, they deal direct damage.

    Thoughts?

A beam's range is merely it's starting range. You can run backwards and it will increase in length.

  8. A poor summary from what I remember on Max's breakdown of WOT. It has a cast time of an average spell ( 2 sec ), but nearly 0 recovery. This is a negative if you have good recovery, which most optimal builds will. However, if you are clunking around in plate armor this quirk is beneficial. Even with the unusual cast/recovery, it's still a great ability for a mere 10 focus to alliance flip a dragon ( I love me some -25 all defense debuff ). Eyestrike also has a quirky cast time, but even though it targets fortitude, it is still another great 10 focus ability that applies a power AoE blind affliction and daze on target.

Confusion is, in most cases superior to charm because it doesn't prematurely break. You can trivialize most encounters by initiating combat from stealth and casting confusion, fighting at ranged, and continually keeping 1 or more enemies confused because most enemies will focus fire on your confused victims instead of your party. The randomness that comes into play with confusion when you pull = when the enemy rolls "behave normally", which seems like a 33% chance - because enemies will attack your puller. This isn't very PETA friendly, but I position my ranger sponge pet in front of my puller.

  9. If you have a druid, I'd give to druid.

The problem with dominate is that it is bugged and breaks prematurely.

Another problem with dominate is enemies become immune to foe only AoEs.

I find dominate/charm more useful when it's deliberately cast to prevent an enemy from attacking you or getting enemies to attack the charmed creature instead of your party.

  10. Cipher wild leech has 1 in 6  chance of lowering its HP by 50% (down to 239 end now).

    25% chanter flame lash chant

25%? chanter vs beast damage chant

    25% for beast bane talent

10% damage vs beast inn bonus

20% vs flanked target camping bonus

10% spell damage gloves if caster

10% melee or ranged damage gloves if paladin or rogue or 10% ranged damage neck

    10% crit helm or gloves

3% gift of the machine talent

    3% strength boon talent

    3% MIG effigy talent

    30% doemenal crit talent

    10% crit quest talent

crit conversion from priest and paladin = 30%

    possibles:

    cipher detonate

    wizard blast of frost

    rogue backstab

    paladin flame of devotion

  11. Hi Lampros, ty for uploading the vids. It seemed like you burned down the enemies really fast, which would give dragon thrash a dps edge since it's passive and enemies aren't dying before other characters finish activating their abilities. Also, if you have 1 chanter using dragon thrash, the rest of your party doesn't get the full benefits the 25% flame lash chant. Dragon thrash is a top notch dps ability, but my opinion is that that  etcopsychic crush with flame lash would come out ahead. What difficulty are you playing on?
