Ah, once again I make my first post on a board long winded. Ah well, it's who I am.
As a poor gamer, I just bought Kotor 2 and blew through the game compelled by the awesome story. On my second time through, I tried to get properly finish all the quests and stumbled across this board in a search for a mission I couldn't figure out how to complete.
After much forum reading (although probably not a lot considering the volume of discussion on some of these threads), reviewing the company info page, looking up the founders, I can't figure out what to expect.
I am of the opinion that Kotor2 looks like it was rushed at some point in it's production, but there was a lot about the game that gripped me. Again, I really enjoyed the story and found it very compelling. If that element keeps up, I will be buying Obsidian games for the stories.
The problem is I get bad feeling about the people who are adding that great element won't be able to do their work proper justice if the trend keeps up. Even if they do, I worry they still could fall prey to the strange forces that shut down good companies. I've watched mystified as a few companies who's games I've really enjoyed just up and vanished. Digital Anvil (Starlancer, Freelancer) seemed to pop out of exsitence and my few attempts to figure out what happened yielded no information. Troika (Vampire: Bloodlines, Arcanum, and ToEE) did the same, with news about their closure making some headlines, but nothing specific that I could find.
After getting that typed out, I realize that I'm getting jaded that a really great new company will stay around long. With the companies I've listed, I have found no information as to what went wrong.
So to sum up, I have high hopes for Obsidian and their product line based on what I've seen and who they have already and was hoping to hear from the people involved here as to how well they think Obsidian will be able to do.
