Not to worry, I think I've fixed this - looks like it was a broken install and a Steam cache integrity check seems to have solved the problem.

After a few minutes of play all keyboard inputs (pausing, quicksave, esc and so on) stop working. At the same time, the save button under the menu stops working (and sometimes greys out). I can still click freely, the game runs fine and accessing menus with the mouse still works. Quitting to the menu and reloading seems to fix things, but the problem quickly reappears. So far this has only occurred in the Black Meadow after I've killed at least one troll (I can apparently kill the ent thingies in the top right without causing a problem) but that may just be coincidence. Reproduction - after loading the save the problem usually shows up within a minute or so.
