I figured out a solution, if you hit command-F it will go from full screen to desktop sized screen, which will allow you to do stuff on the desktop.

Hi, How would I tab back to the desktop during the game? I can't find a way and my keyboard shortcuts don't work while in game on OS X Yosemite. Thanks! Johnny
