[Mod/Tweak] - XP Gain Modifier

Recommended Posts

Not actually a mod but a simple tweak to values found in the gamedata bundle files.

  1. The file you’ll need is in the gamedata folder within the game directory (e.g. \steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity II\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\exported\design\gamedata).

  2. The file is called global.gamedatabundle.

  3. Backup that file before you modify it and open it with any text editor (Windows Notepad works just fine).

  4. Search for the entries "QuestXPMultiplier", "CombatXPMultiplier", "ExplorationXPMultiplier" and "TrapLockXPMultiplier" and tweak their individual values.

  5. For example, I wanted 2x slower levelling, so I divided all the values by 2. I.e.  "QuestXPMultiplier":0.675 etc.

Has anyone played enough with decreased multipliers to give feedback? I've set mine to 0.95 which is around 30%, because 50% seems a lot. I'm already level 10 and still in Neketaka. Hopefully this will stop the crazy outlevelling when playing a completionist run. I don't have the time to play these days and test it though.

The perfect setup for a game for me will be "upscaling all" and decreased xp gains (if difficulty indicators are working). If i was to start the game now i will choose no scaling (because i want to see the damn difficulty indicators) and decrease the multipliers by 50% and see how it goes and adjust if needed. Anyway that is unlikely to happen because i'm already 30 hours in the game.

There is a mod which supposedly enables difficulty indicators with scaling turned on: https://github.com/SonicZentropy/PoE2Mods.pw/blob/master/README.md

I haven't tested it yet.

I already disabled level scaling by switching the difficulties back and forth between relaxed and veteran. Is there any way to enable the scaling again?

I've tried it -- but I also wrote it :) SonicZEntropy expanded it to include character level icons, so the mod you want to enable is DifficultyIconsAlways. That will always show difficulty indicators for characters, I believe (instead of basing it off the Difficulty Indicators option in the settings menu). In the next couple of days we're going to coming the mods so that both character and quest level icons can be toggled based on the options menu.

There is a mod on nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/2?tab=description&BH=11

You can use it to change difficulty and scaling on the go.

so if we wanted icons back on quest list only, we should use the 'DifficultyIconsMod' only?

Unfortunately yes. Technically you could replace the game's Assembly-CSharp.dll with the modified one created by the Patchwork launcher, but since you'd have to recreate it anyway to change mods, it's easier to let the launcher do the work. The launcher restores the default DLL after you exit the game so that you can start it from Steam/GOG/etc unmodded.

Also, if the game updates on Steam/GOG, you should wait until the launcher has updated as well before using it again.
