Micro driven soulbound item levelling is a bad design

Recommended Posts

I mean it. Some conditions to up the soul bound items just break immersion. I have to deliberately stop the combat's normal flow, micro the item wielder, fulfill a very specific condition w/o other party members interfering. While mechanically it's ok, the suspension of disbelief is tried severely breaking you out of the immersion. It's like the enemy would suddenly question me:

- Why are you poking me with your knife and the rest or your teammates are standing behind doing nothing?

- Nothing personal, pal. You just happen to match the exact condition my capricious knife needs to level up.

I see the dreams so marvelously sad

The creeks of land so solid and encrusted

Where wave and tide against the shore is busted

While chanting by the moonlit twilight's bed

The soulbounds are an interesting topic, no doubt. I have not yet formulated an opinion on it, but I guess it really depends on what you have to do with different characters.

Personally I just bound that Arqebuse to Maia, which was a natural thing to do in my book. Now I have to "Inflict 30 Agility (don't know what the attribute translates to, the one that makes you faster) afflictions". Now what exactly does that mean? Does Maia have to equip stuff that gives +Agility? Or does she have to inflict +/-Agility on others? How does she do that? Is just damaging enough, or do I have to use bombs, scrolls etc. to level this up? Is that feasible for a Ranger?

For a Chanter or Priest I suppose this would work better, being able to give out buffs and similar, but I have no idea how to do it with a ranger...

Requirement are actually easy when you know that you can actually use skills while having the weapon equipped just like in PoE1.

For example, The Tree Arquebus says "inflict 30 agility" which are stuff like hobbled and paralysis. I have it on Aloth and just have him throw Iced Fireblal for easy AoE paralysis and use the ice beam which inflicts multiple hit with hobble on each hit. Bam, done in a single fight. You can try using the tangle root scroll instead on other chars as that's a giant multi-hit hobbled.

Ah yeah I thought as much, thank you for the advice. This is just not explained very well, I daresay, a tooltip would have been nice, that tells me what exactly is it that entails"agility". I tried food and potions to increase reflexes and speed, but that did nothing. From time to time Maia gets one of these, but I had no idea how that worked, thanks! Will take a look if maybe bombs help as well.
