Xoti's quest, quick question

So I've been mucking about in Chapter 1 still, and I noticed that Xoti's quest just says to help her reap souls and whatnot.

 

So my question is: Is there a set number to this? Sometimes I go off to a dungeon on a side quest and have the purple glowy spirits and if she's there she'll ask if she can reap them, but I don't always take her along. Whenever I find a spirit and don't have her, how potentially screwed am I in regards to her quest if I don't double back to get her? So far I think the only souls I had her grab were the ones in the Arena before you even leave the first island.

I gathered the ones I could on the beach, then in Port Maje flooded district and after my ship was repaired I went back to the beach and collect 2 spirits which stayed there before (women's spirit up the road, who was saying that death is borring and the one man's spirit near the water where player woke after ship crushed). Be sure to swim through caves for another spirit which can be convice to follow you. But those two I mentioned are just standing/sitting and talking outside of conversation if you click on them, but with Xoti in your party  she will pull them to the lantern.

Just play with her and gather souls whereever you can...I didn't even bother going back to the beach, had multiple places where I could gather souls and I think I have completed her questline. At least the Lantern of Gaunt is completed and I am waiting for the consiquences of my choices.

Don't overthink, just play.

I went back to the beach for the last two souls after doing every quest in Port Maje and that was enough. I'm now at third stage of her quest or further and there is still lots of branching choices to progress. With I guess at least three different outcomes at the end of her questline.

Any consequences to letting her reap after doing her main quest? Should the watcher be amassing souls for something else?

There are loads of opportunities for having Xoti collect souls as you go along. If you never have her with you maybe you’ll struggle, but you don’t need to fret about collecting every single one.

No, I mean, once I've *done* the quest, will it matter at any point how many souls the watcher themselves has taken along?

Yeah Gorecci street (Port Maje), and the two souls on the beach should be enough to progress her quest, plus that dialogue she has at the engwithan ruin where you pick Aloth. I'd go to the beach after Engwithan ruin to get the souls, then to Port Maje to hand in the quest.

You can talk to her afterwards, or she has a conversation pop-up, I don't remember, but it definitely progresses her quest where she suggests going to the temple of Gaun in Neketaka to try and clean her soul.
