POE's 2 Box Editions after a release

Recommended Posts

Hi Saberman,

the last thing I know on your question is this:

Yes, there will be a boxed edition, but no, it will not contain what you would expect.

The DVD in the boxed edition contains a Steam Installer. And the box comes

with a Steam activation code.

So as far as I know, Pillars 2, will be distributed digitally only this time.

Should there be any news on this topic, or should I be wrong, feel free to update or correct me.

Thanks for answer, Fluffe.

So there won't be any special box editions for POE Deadfire like Adventurer Edition for POE 1 after a release?

Sadly, I have forgotten to donate POE 2 on "fig" to get boxed, collector's edition of the game, so that's why this question has been created here...

Right now, here, in Poland, shops don't sell any preorders of POE 2, even the digital ones. That's why I am worried about physical editions.

The only website where I've found a buyable box edition of Pillars 2 is Amazon.

Catch the link: https://www.amazon.com/Pillars-Eternity-II-Deadfire-Obsidian-PC/dp/B07999KF6W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523133348&sr=8-1&keywords=pillars%2Bof%2Beternity%2B2%2Bdeadfire&dpID=51oFV8%252B16lL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch&th=1

Is it safe to buy? Does Obsidian sell it?

This is the version which I would buy...

There will be no physical editions of Pillars of Eternity 2.

That is what I was trying to tell you.

There will only be digital ones. And if you buy a physical box of Pillars of Eternity 2, then inside

you will find a DVD with a Steam Installer only.

It is not possible to buy the game itself on a DVD/CD anywhere in any way.

And that holds true even for the boxed editions of the FIG campaign.

Even if you had donated on FIG and you would have gotten a boxed version.

Even then you would have only gotten a DVD with a Steam installer on it.

Pillars of Eternity 2 will be distributed digitally only.

And you can only choose between GOG or STEAM.

The problem is that many, many people don't know about this.

And on Amazon for example it is not even described in this way.

This is not communicated well enough, not by Obsidian nor by the vendors of the game.

And I fear that this is going to upset a lot of people.

Not only for the bad communication of this.

But also because some people still might prefer an actual physical edition of the game.

All the information I posted above was what I was told during the FIG campaign.

But if you take a look at this:

https://www.iskmogul.com/pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire-getting-a-physical-release/

Then there may actually be a physical edition.

So if you buy a copy of Pillars 2 then take care to buy it from THQ Nordic.

This surprises me, because I was told Pillars 2 would only get distributed digitally because

it would cost too much time and money to provide patches for a physical edition.

Apparently the digital editions can be patched far easier.

So you may consider my last posts to be outdated. But I would like to

read some official confirmation on this first.

Thanks for informations, Fluffle.

I had checked the official website of THQ Nordic, and I noticed, that they're going to sell "The Obsidian Phisical Edition" of the game.

There're gonna be 3 phisical items in the box:

  • cloth map
  • Explorer's notepad
  • set of postcards

I will contact THQ Nordic, to get information about physical, Obsidian Edition.

I'm curious if you know more about this as I'm interested too. That link doesn't seem to have more than a page though. I didn't see a "buy" button anywhere.

There is your "buy" button (rather an "add-to-cart" button)

https://www.amazon.com/Pillars-Eternity-II-Deadfire-Obsidian-PC/dp/B07999KF6W?th=1

That is the Obsidian Edition from THQ Nordic (but you can also very easily switch to Standard Edition)
