Generally if you remove a character from the party that character and their progress is still there and they can be added back to the party. Did something else happen? Was the character created with a nickname? I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Email support telling them a nicknamed character vanished, along with the character, nickname, and account name plus four digit number OR your PFID# found at the bottom of the OPTIONS>SETTINGS menu.
