I spot enemies before I see them

Madscientist

Question

I have activated auto pause on enemy spotted.

Almost always, the game pauses already when I see nothing but the fog of war. I have to walk several meters further before enemies become visible on the screen. In PoE1, the auto pause happens when the enemy becomes visible on the screen, as it should be.

I have a monitor resolution of 1920*1080, just in case it may have something to do with it.

wild guessing:

The reason could be that the fog of war is programmed to disappear whithin 12m of any party member while the condition for the auto pause is an enemy within 15m around any character. Once again, this is just wild guessing and the numbers are just an example.

I have that too and I got the auto-pause on spot as well. I also got one case of an enemy I couldn't see (but that was spotted) that started to attack my party from range. I had no idea where he was.

Same, I don't mind it that much out in the open, but what is very jarring is when you spot enemies that are behind solid objects. This happens a bunch in the Poko Kahara ruins, where you'll spot enemies  in a room adjacent to the one you're in but in terms of actual layout there's a solid wall between you and them and it is quite a ways away from you on foot.

Hey Madscientist my ace in the hole :),

Any chance you could get me a screenshot of this bad boy?

Any of you others that want to get on my good side like Madscientist here can try to steal his position and send me one as well  ;)

Thanks all!

You the best,

Here are a couple screenshots of one example (1280x720 due to playing on a REALLY old computer):

I panned the 'camera' around once I got the auto-pause message.

If a save file would help, I can attach one.

(FWIW, the game state has that duplicated animal companion bug that I've seen referenced and I haven't bothered to clear it on that run-through)

I always get it in two specific places.

1. When I ambush the lagufaeth boar hunting party and I'm sneaking around after I kill the lonely sentinel at the bottom of the map and move right instead of up to clear the fog. The enemy that attacked my party without me seeing him is actually the top most lagufaeth, but that happened only once.

2. A beetle on level 1 of the Poko ruins when coming from the bottom door while sneaking. I think I'm spotting something through the wall here.

Although, I saw something that might be related to that today while sneaking around the village. I had invisible NPCs at the limit of the character "eye-range". I could see their "sight-cones", but not their bodies, if I got a little bit closer I could see their bodies.

I have found another strange behaviour:

At the beach, some lagufaeth priests and some sand blights in another group are quite far away from each other.

I am in stealth and the game pauses when an enemy becomes visible. (that is correct).

I move stealthed forward towards the enemy. When another enemy of this group becomes visible, the game pauses again although the first enemy was visible all the time.

The game paused because enemy sighted, combat did not start at this point.

Spotting enemies through wall is notorious. Just happened again in Poko ruins as you mentioned. In screeshot below the view is centered on spotted enemy:
