I wonder if the ship(base) will have an impact in-game

I got a reply in my little ship thread in the backer beta, which almost confirms ship's cook, ship's medic, and stuff like that, at least:

It was also mentioned by Josh in the last Q&A that certain ships or ship upgrades may be required in order to venture further out through the Deadfire, through stormier and more hostile territories and so on. It seems integrating the stronghold deeper with the rest of the game is something that has been looked at quite closely, given their discontent with how Caed Nua turned out in the first game.

The ship stuff is still under construction, so not everything that they're trying to make will make it into the game. Josh mentioned that they're going to release something "really big" into the beta at some point. That might be the ship stuff.

From what we've seen, your crew affects how the ship functions by manning certain posts (cannons, steering, & whatnot). Your crew can be injured and killed. We've seen at least one scripted sequence where you can interact with your crew socially (and you could be a real awful jerk to your crew). It also looks like your ship can be damaged, since there are ship repair materials to be found in the beta. Josh said something which I thought sounded like some your ship's crew might be recruited quest NPCs. I think Vektor, a character in the beta might be a recruitable crew member.

As Algroth said, you can also buy new ships.

I hope for a naval battlefield(if its a thing) at some point; a map in which 10+ ships abreast, half of them half sunk, we board from one side to a long fight with plenty of deck hopping with ships joining the fray and/or sinking at couple [check]points with an eventual sea monster encounter. Expensive, maybe imposubru dreams.

And when we defeat the sea monster, a much bigger ship will arrive and steal the trophy/loot/whatever, which will be our medium term ship/captain nemesis.

Come to think of it, there is a great potential with enemy ships/captains who can be our allies/enemies and mystery ships, plague ships(which is confirmed), trading ships conveniently needing our help or facing our wrath etc. something rpgs with mobile bases lacks most of the time f.i. there was no other normandy type ship roaming around the galaxy in ME, a bit too one of a kind :p

Yeah I went a bit too far but ship graveyard type map, a map where many ship carcasses are used as platforms(not actual ship to ship combat) could be done I think maybe without the sinking etc. depends on if the devs see it worthy :p

I wonder if there will be a land base as well? Just some building in Neketaka where visitors can come, trade deals can be made, and which will serve as a shipping company headquarters.

Since there won't be a Nassau-like island base I'd rather want HQ will be just the ship, if someone should come to us to make a deal or something they should come on board, a mere "key to breezehome" would be redundant in a game like this and should it be more than a home it would take from what would make the ship special/important.

That's actually good news. The player's castle in game 1 was not bad, don't get me wrong, but it did felt like it had something missing .
