Freezes on exit from the character creator

Description: the game freezes when you attempt to exit the character creator into the main menu. 

The screen looks like on the screenshot below (black with some leftover text). Then eventually a dialogue box appears that the application doesn't respond.

 

How to reproduce: Start makind a character. Go all the way to the customisation, then go back and press "x" to exit and return to the main menu. After you confirm your action, the screen will go black with some UI text left.

Update: The same situaltion happens when I'm trying to exit the game.
