I'm attacking my second Chosen stronghold right now. My Templar is destroying everything in his path so I had to up the difficulty to make things a challenge for him.

I'm hearing so many voices from TNG. Worf, Q, Riker, Troi, and I think maybe Yar too

So, I've kind of been drawing my War of the Chosen game out because...I guess I want to do more covert ops.  Anyway, I finally in January of 2036 got my first mission that had turrets that wasn't an extraction.  So I could finally research the defense matrix, that I will never, ever use (I don't even have a spot for it.)

That said, all my weapons have +1 damage, my beam weapons have an additional +1 damage (so pretty much everything does +2 damage), and all my weapons can use 3 upgrades.  All the Chosen are dead (and honestly, the Hunter and Warlock were cake since I had high level soldiers and plasma weapons for them.)  All the Chosen weapons are pretty awesome, though I was hoping for some sort of awesome psi amp or templar gauntlet from the Warlock.  It's pretty funny seeing a soldier with 140% to crit when not using a shotgun (and I can't recall if any of my shotguns have gotten that high, but I know it's quite often well over 100.)  I'd have preferred that the hunter's weapon had an expanded magazine instead of the stock, too.  Also, I have a continent bonus that makes all my weapon upgrades more effective, which basically means they're just improved one step (4 ammo instead of 3 for superior magazines, 20% hit instead of 15% for superior scopes, etc.)

I killed all the Alien Rulers on the first encounter except the Berserker Queen, and she escaped with 1 health because the shot that hit her as she was going for the gate was a graze.

As for the hero classes, the Reaper is far and away the winner as far as I'm concerned.  The amount of damage they can put out in one turn with Banish + Claymore is insane (admittedly it's only 1/mission, but with the upgrades I've got they can put 7 rounds into an enemy.)  Add that on top of the scouting and as far as I'm concerned nothing else really compares.  Templar seems like a pretty awesome utility character (that +33% damage to an enemy for 3 attacks power is awesome) but their pistol is useless and I'm not big on charging into melee when it might reveal more enemies.  Skirmisher seems pretty good, but I was a bit disappointed with their colonel level abilities.  Battlelord seems like it could save you if you got yourself into a mess, but the other ones are kind of meh as far as I'm concerned.  I had thought the reduced cooldown one was a passive, but it's a 1/mission active, which is just worthless to me.

Anyway, it seems like there are lots of resistance orders that can seriously change how your game plays out.  For example, I've seen one that gives double AP on missions, and another that makes your soldiers bond 25% faster.  Depending on which ones you get randomly at the start or through early covert operations, it seems like it could really change how the game plays out.  The only one that seems completely indispensable is the one that makes every successful attack against the Lost a kill (though I admittedly haven't seen any Lost in quite a while at this point...I've got enough firepower and good enough hit chances that I probably don't need it anymore, although a sharpshooter with the Shadowkeeper is awesome against the Lost as long as you're using that order.)

My only real disappointment is that the Boltcaster and Axe seem to lose out.  On the rare occasion that I take 2 rangers I use the axe, but the Katana is just better, what with ignoring armor and never missing.  The Boltcaster does a bit more damage than a regular assault rifle, but I'd rather have an assault rifle that has +20% aim, 20% kill chance, and 4 guaranteed damage for my secondary assault rifle characters (the first assault rifle I use is the Warlock's) as opposed to a point or two more damage and a stun chance that almost never works for me.  Oh, and I still haven't been able to recruit a second Skirmisher, which seems weird.  Not sure if Sparks are any good now, either, as I've built one but never used it.  They were so terrible in the base game I haven't bothered to use it, but I imagine I will at some point.  The fact that they can't bond is pretty big points off, though.

Still, I don't really have a must-have squad setup at this point, unlike in the base game.  Grenadiers are still pretty good, but having 2 grenadiers isn't necessarily ideal any more.  I think my final squad will probably be Reaper/Ranger/Specialist/Grenadier/Sharpshooter/Psi Op for the last mission.

Overall, it's probably the best expansion pack (or DLC or whatever you want to call it) that I've encountered.  There's so much content and none of it is bad.  It's also given me the opportunity to drag the game out as long as I want, which didn't seem possible in the base game (I've got facilities that I haven't gotten around to attacking that will take the avatar counter back to zero.)

Okay, I'll stop gushing now.  Sorry. :)

Still playing Witcher 3, been doing every side quest and unknown area and treasure hunts and etc etc. Damnit I'm still in freaking Velen and the city. I didn't even realize the city was the second area, was getting worried like damn this is a ****load of content for firstish' area lol. So far, damn I'm still freaking impressed. I'm also liking the detail to quests and how they operated. Some quests I'm like ok this is gonna be quick only to find a quest chain go on and some I'm like ok I wonder where this quest is gonna take me and it ends really quickly. It's keeping me on my toes.

Also of course I'm still playing killing floor 2 to relax and unwind when I get home from work.

Been hitting eso here and there.

Also been doing fonv, I'm in HH and while it has one of my fav characters (Joshua Graham mutha****ers!), the quests are pretty boring until the end. Gonna make Joshua burn bright.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR WITCHER 1 GAME

So I finished Chapter 1 of Witcher 1.

  • My favorite character so far is definitely Lambert, DID HE GET HIS LOBSTER SOUP?!?!
  • @Starwars was right, Chapter 1 is pretty dry, lots of fetch quests, but it still held my attention a bit.
  • As a feminist, the post-coital collectible art cards are blatantly objectifying and make me roll my eyes, however as a bisexual gal; I am uh...really intrigued. My favorite "card" is the Witch lady outside Vizima, mhmmm...blood-covered titties. Also, did we have sex in front of kidnapped/traumatized children? Girl, you nasty...
  • I'm not a huge fan of the reliance on potions, but I guess it adds a strategetic edge to it.
  • Also, the name of the city 'Vizima' makes me giggle. Makes me think of 'emphysema', so I imagine everyone in the city is coughing.

I was on a mission, and I realized that one of my posters was on the wall of an office. Nice touch!

The neat thing is when your soldier is taking cover behind a wall that has a poster with their picture on it :)

But vanilla XCOM2 already had something similar: the holoscreens would sometimes flash up Wanted posters with the faces of your soldiers.

1 facility left, Avatar counter at 0, and final mission unlocked.  Will have to wait for tomorrow to finish it, but I just spent 300 AP tricking out the squad I'm going to take on the final mission. :)

Oh...and 28 Colonel Soldiers and 4 maxed out Psi Ops.  And an Aspirant Spark (they seem okay now, but no bonding and no ability training makes them kind of suboptimal, imo.)

That awkward moment when you just started Witcher 1 three days ago but then CDPR releases a 10-year Anniversary video for the Witcher series and all the Youtube comments & forums are talking about they're tearing up and feel like they just had a family reunion. I hate to bring back an old meme, but I honestly feel like I showed up to the party 10 years late with Starbucks.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR WITCHER 1 GAME

Okay so I finished Chapter 2:

  • Lambert has been de-throned, Zoltan Chivay is now my favorite character. He's a true bro. Amnesia? **** it, we're still best friends. It is now my goal in life to get that man laid. Tbh all the dwarves I've met have been bros. Golan Vivaldi has put up with so much crap from my Geralt aka every time I show up drunk at Shani's house and Granny kicks me out I crash at his pad.
  • Also, I love how full of crap Geralt is when he wants to get laid. Druids only have sex when they want to procreate. Meanwhile, Geralt's like: "Ok, my swimmers are duds but hear me out...my d*** will make you super relaxed which will make your reflexes super quick so you can better protect your homeland." God, you can tell this story was written by men but you have to laugh at the immaturity of it.
  • Then there's the elf Yaevinn (who also was right across from Geralt and the Druid having sex so he got an eyeful. I think Geralt has a public sex fetish), who is my bad influence bro. He's also a dead man walking. Every time I talk to him, he's sprouting philosophic stuff so I know he's gonna die somewhere in the game.
  • Then there's my betrayal-bro: Kalkstien. I liked him so much, but it turns out he's one of the baddies.
  • I also have a fav not-important NPC. There's a bug where a 'poor old woman's dialogue keeps overlapping with a hooker's. So every time I run past her, she simultaneously complains about her old bones, while also soliciting me for sex. Which tbh my Geralt would be down for; take them dentures out granny and pop your hip back into place cuz this Witcher is about to rock your world.
  • Then there's Shanni. One of the problems about getting into this series late is I know the two main love interests that Geralt can end up with: Triss or Yennifer. So I know Shanni is gonna die. But even if I didn't know about the other love interests, the writers make it so blatant. She's practically a saint; a  beautiful young nurse who tends to plague victims while simultaneously taking care of her old lady roommate (also Grandma is the best.  When the cutscene pans down that shows her listening to Shanni and Geralt bumping uglies is priceless). Still, her coitus-card is hilarious. "~Oh Geralt, lemme just whip out my medical anatomy book, which also doubles as my Kama Sutra~"
  • Wrapping up, Chapter 2 was still little weak for me. It was honestly just a 4 hour long Sherlock Holmes story (which makes sense since Raymond Maarloeve is Sherlock of the Witcher universe) However, I do have to give kudos to CDPR with subtle hints on Maarloeve's twist. My wolf pendant kept shaking every time I was with Maarloeve after he "went into hiding" and at first I thought he was a werewolf, but the surprise was better than I thought.

Unto Chapter 3!

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Picked up a little game called Invisigun Heroes, it's basically a Bomberman for smart people.

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest.

Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

My XCOM2 game is at a point where everything is trivial now so I'm thinking of restarting and not cheesing it so much and probably bumping up the difficulty too. Right now my Reaper (Troi) and Ranger scout ahead and pick off any easy targets they come across and my Templar follows behind wrecking everything else. His dodge is so high that parry doesn't even trigger anymore. I also usually bring along a squadsighted Sniper or two to provide some support but they usually aren't needed. The only difficulty I have is if enough of my top guys are tired/shaken/wounded/whatever but even then my bench is pretty strong so my battles just take a little longer but aren't actually much harder.

I decided to knock out some shorter games while I wait on Danganronpa v3. Ori and the Blind Forest was fantastic, Hollow Knight I gave up on around 6 hours in, and lastly I'm now on Evoland 2 which falls somewhere between the two.

Yeah, I'm missing out on some difficulty mods.  Granted, I'm only playing on commander, but once I got high-ranked soldiers with plasma weapons, pretty much every mission is flawless.  I did have one where two guys got injured, but they were trivial injuries (and one was because I missed that a car was burning.)  One of my favorite mods (Scanning Sites Plus) I don't think will work well with the fatigue system, though, because it generates a mission for every scanning site, so I'd be doing like 8 missions a month, and there just wouldn't be time for soldiers to recover (or I'd have to have 5-6 squads, which would be fine late game but early game would be awful.

I'm playing West of Loathing, from the creators of Kingdom of Loathing (that game still exists and is playable, 14 years later!).  It's a comedy RPG set in the wild west.  It most directly compares to South Park: Stick of Truth.  While the style of humor is different, the volume of jokes and gags is roughly the same (read: constant torrent of jokes and gags).  Humor is highly subjective, so your mileage may vary, but I've been getting a lot of laughs out of the game.  The game has a level-less character progression system where you spend earned XP directly on upgrading stats and skills.  There are 3 classes: Cow Puncher (fighter), Beanslinger (mage), and Snake Oiler (rogue).  Combat is turn-based and fairly simplistic, also pretty easy if you've ever played a RPG before (suffice to say, anyone frequenting these forums has played a RPG before).  There is a Hard Mode, though I've yet to try it.  There are perks you can gain along the way for doing various things (the game never tells you in advance, you need to find these on your own) and these are a bit like Fallout perks and traits.  In fact, the game shares some similarities with the original Fallout games in some of its dialogue options and ability to get past obstacles in varied ways.  For example, early on in the game I did something pretty doggone cold-hearted and it gave me the Ruthless perk.  The Ruthless perk occasionally gives me the option solve problems in a truly horrible and evil way.  It's fantastic.  Also, I unlocked something called Stupid Walk Mode.  It's exactly what it sounds like.  Think, the Ministry of Silly Walks from Monty Python, but even more ridiculous.

Anyway, I'm having a blast with it.  It's not the deepest RPG ever made, but the mechanics aren't throw away either, there is a legit, albeit completely silly, RPG system there.  Plus, I find the game consistently funny.
