Going to be blasting this on my phone when I sit with my dog outside, once it gets above 10 C

Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

I'm old

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest.

Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

"Let me just throw every dub, ragga, dancehall sample into a bin and see what comes out in the wash."

It's not a bad song, just a bit derivative even by reggae's standards.

Joys of being a simple music fan, I suppose. Well that and I can easily wind up metal fans (fantastic snobs there )

No problem with that, I listen to plenty of music that draws from shared language of samples. Reggae just often feels especially lazy to me because a lot of the music I listen to evolved from or has been heavily influenced by those roots, and really displays how much innovation could be had otherwise.

I feel ya with metal though, I only dabble on the edges of that genre and I'm sure I'm missing some of the better or more respectable stuff. Although I tend to respect metal fans because I realize metal is an incredibly rich area of music, and I find it parallels a lot of what I listen.

True in 1983 when song was released. Still true in 2003. Still true today (and not just in the "good ol' USA").

Maybe one day such a song will no longer feel relevant. One day.

Considering what's going on this song seems topical...or it might be wishful thinking on my part

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Written after the Rostock-Lichtenhagen riots. Ben should like this, assuming the comrades in China didn't get him. ;)

Translated lyrics:

The conditions at home are unbearable
No supplies left to get
And no prospect of any future
the only chance a western country
Everything is foreign and you have to accept
That the people here are better too
After all, you can move freely
Although some looks are not harmless
And the waiting time in the refugee camp
Is not always nice
Only the hope of a life worth living
Makes up for it all

At night, a stone flies through a window
The shards rattle, something burns
A few half-naked people are shouting
While someone runs out in panic
Outside, a few young guys roar
Leave now or we'll kill you
In the child's eyes nothing but horror
On the arm of the mother who just stares silently
Thank God, the police's coming
That was pretty close
And the attackers are gone

Just as fast as they turned up

It begins the same way

Says old Franz
It's the same old song

It's the same old dance
It begins just as it did

And back then it too

Began with only a few

What remains is a damaged house
And the bare fear of tomorrow
And in prison a few tough heroes
The few days there they proudly bear
And at some tavern table you hear
Ah well, that that can happen
They should mind their own business
And behave quietly in a foreign country
They want our work and steal like magpies
And for that they are fed by us
That you do not necessarily kill them
That's another can of worms

It begins the same way

Says old Franz
It's the same old song

It's the same old dance
It begins just as it did

And back then it too

Began with only a few

It begins the same way

Says old Franz
It's the same old song

It's the same old dance
It begins just as it did

And back then it too

Began with only a few

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

Once upon a magical time I played a game. Many many many great videos of this game were made by many a folk. Here are two of my favorites, musically speaking. One of them is also one of my all-time favorite encounters: Heigan the Unclean (original Naxx version). A'lar was fun too of course, especially early on.

Vanilla and BC.... whoa those were the days :)
