What's on the idiot box?

It's not believeable. The actress doesn't sell it. The show TELLS us that Arya is now a 'badass' but I ain't buying what she is selling. How she killed Trant (or whatever his name) was believable. Her going toe to toe in a striaght up sword fight is not in any way shape or form believeable. Dragons existing in real life would be more believeable.

It's that awkward balance.   Her being fluid and deft and graceful being able to dodge and sidestep the blows, that's believable.  Her opponent having trouble hitting her, again believable because all of her opponents have been of almost equal size to her, so suddenly trying to hit someone half their height will throw her off somewhat.  The quick snap attacks with Needle to Brienne's hand or knee, believable enough when you have contrasting styles of knight hack-and-slash versus agile fencing.

What wasn't believable was the blocking moments. Even if she was deflecting the blows more than blocking, that size / weight / strength mismatch would have beaten her down more. You needed more of the kicks that knocked her on her ass.

For the devil's advocate, I suppose you could also posit that Brienne wouldn't have been attacking with full strength during the first half of that sparring match, because she's a trained swordswoman teaching a much younger, not fully grown lady she's sworn to, and you don't leap in at full strength combat when you don't know how good your trainee actually is.

Didn't a water dancer kick Jorah's ass ages ago

Wasn't that a fully grown and trained for decades Water Dancer?  The issue of believability with Arya vs Brienne is more that she doesn't have the physical strength to compare. It doesn't matter if you have the reflexes and skill to put your blade in the way in the right angle to deflect an incoming blow.. if that blow is ridiculously strong and heavy compared to what you can handle.

Guys it shouldnt be difficult to imagine Arya defeating someone like Brienne or most people in one on one combat. She was trained at the House of the Faceless Man, she has skills that are not normal and this makes her deadly to most people

Also to be fair, Maisie Williams is naturally right-handed, so you have to give her props for developing her left hand over the years playing Arya.

I don't give her any credit outside of she is a kid. She is not believeable in this 'bad ass  role'. It is not believeable that she can go toe to toe with Brienne striaght up. Use one of her 'facs' to sneak up on her and murder her from behind? Sure. Straight up melee? No way. And, Williams fails in making me believe it. That is poor acting because some child actors have  made it believeable that they can go toe to toe with adults but not her not this time. Pure fan servicing. Pure garbage.

Physics work in Westeros pretty much like they do here. In the books as well as in the show, so there's that. There's no way Arya can block a blow from Brienne with a regular sword - let alone with Needle, in the same way you couldn't actively block a car running you over.

But that's a fairly common problem in movies and shows. There's often a 45 kilogram tiny woman dual wielding Desert Eagles or going toe to toe in a martial arts fight with enemies twice their mass at comparative skill levels and coming out on top. It's not that smaller, more agile fighters wouldn't be able to win, just not in the way shown on screen - unless that's the whole point, like Bronn vs. Ser Vardis back in Season 1 - although their builds were much more similar than Arya and Brienne, obviously.

So Volo is right after a fashion. Arya's still awesome and a badass but Volo can't jump over his shadow and all that... ;)

Yeah she doesn't look lethal at all.

Also what was the cave painting scene for. Like we need more foreboding about the bloody ice zombies at this point.

Is that a rhetoric question? Because the "we have to stand together or all is lost" symbolism was a bit on the nose and all. *shrug*

I wonder what would have happened if the humans in those cave painting knew that the CotF created the White Wankers in the first place.

Guys she doesnt look lethal because she is a 20 young women with a babyface....she is cute and its hard to change her to the point where now she becomes intimidating ? But in the books her appearance would be different and more lethal

Also if we going debate the point around physics I would say we have no idea what she is capable of based on the narrative in the books.

I will defer to the books on what she can or cant do :)

Just sayin', it's waaaay past just getting on with the ice zombie progression.  I mean, seasonal differences in westeros vis a vis real earth notwithstanding winter has been comming for 6 and a half years.

They needed a scene where Daenerys starts to get it, the majestic music was completely off the mark, it was like they just failed to create suspense or Epos, or whatever they were going for.

Na na  na na  na na  ...

That is all.

Why care so much about realism in a show about dominant women and dragons?

It's not about realism in the show vs. real life but about realism in terms of internal consistency, and that's been lacking this season, due to a number of factors.

Yep, verisimilitude. To be honest it's lacked whenever they've either not had book material or deviated significantly from it so not just this season. I can criticise George Martin for being a pedestrian writer, but his writing is probably the best for internal consistency I've seen (unlike, say, Malazan) so when they've followed his stuff they haven't had to worry about consistency. If you actually spend any time thinking about some of the distances and timings involved in just the battles the last seasons you find that people literally have to teleport for it to make internal sense eg Euron this and Littlefinger last.

I heard the expression once - "if you're writing about dragons, you better get the horses right". You can go crazy with the fantasy elements, but anything pertaining or relating to reality, better be as close to it as possible (or at least explained properly)

If you don't, then all rules might as well be out the window - why can't Cercei fly when she wants to? It's not a show about realism after all.

I'll have to go back and rewatch the screne but wasn't Ayra doing more redirecting and dodging than blocking?

Dany and Arya continue to be the bane of this show. Why don't they get it over with, and just have Arrya murder Sansa and have it be  a 'deserved kill'.  Neither one of these are heroes yet that is what the show wants us to believe. Sickening. It is sad that these two are making m cheer CLEAR villains like Littlefinger and Cersei over them. LMAO

Also, the one thing this show has been consistent about is that Arya has ALWAYS hated her sister. And, not 'sisterly rivalry' style hate but pure hate. Arya whines about Sansa 'looking down on others' but that is exactly what Arya has ALWAYS done.  Plus, her first reaction to people saying not 100% perfectly positive stuff about her boyfriend Jon Snow is 'off with their heads'. COME ON. How much more evil, insane, and satanical can you be.

Anyone else feel like this entire season of Game of Thrones is just one really long 'Last time on Game of Thrones...'? So many cutaways and the pace of the show has like quadrupled compared to previous seasons.

Not necessarily complaining because it was slow as hell for a while there, but it just feels a little weird.
