Politics - Episode 9: The Lurking Fear

Rosbjerg

Actually I can almost hear WoD and others saying if you're not a criminal or a terrorist you have nothing to fear. Until the day the guys with automatic weapons and armored troop carriers decide you are. Or that they would just be better off without you around. Think it can't cappen here? It already has. Ask Gromnir.

If they turned on me just with their Glocks, how long do you think I'd last? Also local police is usually pretty reasonable as far as political activity is concerned, it's the feds you've got to worry about. And they got all the fire power they want already. Actually I'm counting on Texas to protect me from the fed deep state and their ANTIFA ilk allies.

You say that because you have no clue about anything going on in US, or pretty much in general.

Texas has been slowly becoming bluer over time, probably become a swing state in several elections.

Though yeah, it would be a heck of a thing for Texas to go blue and stay that way for an extended period of time. Given how it's the stereotypical Republican stronghold.

That reminds me though, were going to have to re-jiggy the flag once Puerto Rico votes themselves into the Union.

Not really, one that I saw was indistinguishable from the current flag, so, radical changes wouidn't be needed.

Oh Ben#3, you need to expand your shtick.

O come on, if he seriously says Antifa and the US government are cooperating that's an entirely reasonable reaction ;)

I think you will find it far less different than you're willing to credit. There will still be a big, expensive, and wasteful government that intrudes on our liberty and disregards the constitution. The only difference will be which liberties they intrude on more than others. So once you realize Democrats and Republicans are two sour apples hanging on the same statist tree you see it really doesn't matter which one you are forced to eat.

Yeah, only a single star would need to be added, but the aesthetics are important.

Link to the propsed flag you saw?

It was one I saw on TV.

Wouldn't take much to shift the rows a bit to accommodate for a new star.

Yeah, it'd basically be that.

The ultimate aim of the Democrats isn't the Soviet Union. In the US most socialists favor the Democrats but most Democrats are not socialists. Socialism is not the aim of that group. Oh sure they will talk about it, even borrow ideas from it. But like I told Ben once they may flirt with the ugly red-haired girl, but they won't marry her.

But as I have said many times and stand behind, the love of liberty does not abide in the US Democrat party. They do not value things like individual rights and freedoms. The Republicans are a best a tepid defender and sometimes and opponent of these ideals but the Democrats are antagonistic to them. Hence the reason I will never, ever, vote for a Democrat under any circumstance. But their dream society is not the USSR. It would be a USA with powerful corporations that buy favors from a government they control with a lot of power over a population that does business with those corporations and offers no dissent.

I'd couldn't even guess what the Republicans want. They don't even seem to know themselves.

Wouldn’t it be easier to kickout California since they want to go anyway?

The campaign for it folded back in April, it's not going to be on the ballot. It should be taken as seriously as say, Texans beating their chests over something and threatening seccession. It's just a way of venting rather than anything serious.

It'd be a dumb idea anyway, for various reasons.

Yes? Who was the most popular presidential candidate last election? Sanders, who's admired Stalin, Mao, and Castro. And went to the workers' paradise for his honeymoon btw. You're thinking of the old centrist dems, like ol'Bill. But they've been hurtling to the left faster than a speeding train. And what will happen when we're a one-party country, which we will be if Texas ever turns blue?

Then the Republicans better change their strategy if they want to remain relevant? We're probably the closest we'd ever get one-party country right now.

What is probably more likely would be a political reshuffling.

> this is what conservatives actually believe

well, no.

for the most part, Gromnir is conservative.  am actual in favor o' considerable deregulation efforts.  you got no idea how difficult it is to get any kinda major development project going in the US these days. environmental impact studies and community impact studies and water use studies and dozens more, all which take considerable time (often years) and may be expanded during course o' a project.  am not 'gainst such studies per se, but some serious streamlining needs to occur.  am in favor o' judicial restraint and state rights.  am in favor o' lowering taxes on business-- is a persistent myth that US businesses don't pay much tax.  converse, is far too many ways for the top 1% to avoid paying personal taxes.  am in favor o' strong national defense.  etc.  up until a few years ago, folks woulda' been content to categorize us as a fiscal conservative with hardcore libertarian leanings where fundamental constitutional rights is concerned.

am mostly conservative, and we thinks the quoted wod bit is, at best, eye-roll worthy.

...

even eight years ago, folks such as wod woulda' been dismissed as being nothing more than a lunatic fringe element on the far right o' the political spectrum.  the majority o' americans, including politicians, were centrist.  is one o' the things which baffled europeans 'bout obama.  sure, obama talked like a european socialist, but he weren't in any meaningful sense.  for more than 60 years, conservative and liberal has had different meanings in the US compared to the rest o' the world, but such is changing, and the degree and speed o' the change has been dramatic.  wod were lunatic fringe. nowadays, we suspect he is +20% o' the total population and near 40% o' conservatives.  is still not fair to color all conservatives with wod crazy paint, but he is no longer easily dismissed as aberration.

even so, wod is not representative o' the breadth and depth o' American conservatives any more than antifa nutters who attack abortion clinic protesters with thrown bottles and swinging baseball bats represents liberal or libertarian.  don't make same hasty generalization mistake sharp and wod is wont to do. am suspecting you were mostly joking, we did see the image after all, but it is too easy to get into the habit o' making categorical condemnations.

HA! Good Fun!
