Except it is not a skirt. It is just how armor looks. And she is wearing leg armor so I think most Catholic schools would let her in, but probably be curious why she is so paranoid for her personal safety.

*chuckle* armour with a lacey fringe? leg armour? tights is leg armour?

as the artist mentioned, ydwin gots a modified vailian outfit... and even by vailian standards, she is a hiker.  the penguin will give her detention if she catches her.

ydwin "armour" (insert eye-roll emoticon) is miniskirt length. nothing wrong with miniskirts.  we like miniskirts.  am happy to meet women who got the stems to make a miniskirt work for 'em.  however, is no reason to tango like this, over this. be honest.

I don't get why you are so focused on this

*sigh*

am hardly "focused on this."  review.  we mentioned ydwin miniskirt. were off-hand and minor aspect o' our post. were the smallest of small details.  nevertheless, valmy objected, claiming length were perfect normal. were such an observation by valmy particular probative in reference to ydwin meshing better with the obsidian description o' a rogue? nevertheless, we responded... and keep responding every time somebody makes an additional silly response.

am not responding to the skirt so much as lack o' reasonableness we get from responses.

Agreed, looks more like the female getup on the far left in the image further above. Of course, it's moot since we can dress them however the heck we want to ingame.

How has Ydwin infected 73% of the threads now? Haha. I think people's preconceptions of anime have made Ydwin seem FAR more anime-esque than people think. It's like when you see something like a kusarigama, and the public goes "OH WOW, A CRAZY ANIME WEAPON ON A CHAIN!", because they've seen it so much in anime they don't realize it's actually just a real weapon.

Ydwin's attire is clearly based on historical, real attire. Glasses were a thing, despite being rare. And short hair existed as well, long before anime ever did. She's pale because she's a Pale Elf. And is someone not allowed to have a backstory that has them being super interested in death/"forensics" of a sort?

The fixation on "Ydwin's so crazily anime!" boggles the mind. If you don't like her, just don't like her, and stop trying to find reasons why that's somehow uber justified. Your subjective tastes are already justified, as all humans have them.

(To clarify, this was directed at the 73 billion posts, in general, about Ydwin and the "problems" with her design.)

Should we not start with some Ipelagos, or at least some Greater Ipelagos, before tackling a named Arch Ipelago? 6_u

dear lord.  "historical menswear" is any clothes men wore at any point in history?  great. we got a wonderful photo o' fdr as a toddler.

3eda0eaf0c38ba33b259a9391daef2aa.jpg

maybe george lucas coulda' used accurate "historical menswear" from apocalypto to explain leia's slave outfit from return of the jedi.

is nothing wrong with dressing up the cutesy glasses anime girl in a cutesy goth-inspired outfit, but try and convince folks with the inherent legitimacy o' historical accuracy is not your best option.

HA! Good Fun!

ps @lephys we got no issue with glasses.  if ydwin were a ranged character, glasses such as she is wearing would be awkward but not much o' an issue.  the problem is she is apparent a melee combatant... and combat is not fencing in a salon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOcxnQRUhMM

y'know what the one thing missing from the clip is insofar as accuracy is concerned? mud.  chances for mud and muck to be a factor 'pon any field o' combat is gonna be high.  a significant percentage o' combats is folks rolling 'round in mud and muck... which makes for less impressive choreography on tv and big screen. glasses such as ydwin's in melee combat is... amusing.

am not over concerned 'bout accurate or real, but if folks is actual gonna argue accurate and real, then they better be honest 'bout such.

Josh is out so: https://twitter.com/adam_brennecke/status/915245732994498560

and then this: https://twitter.com/adam_brennecke/status/915310610438512640

Adam is teasing something. But no i dont see. Is it the shadows or something? They are always talking about the shadows. Do the roofs disappear when you go near them? Are the UI elements movable to allow player customizations? Maybe this is showing UI combat window can be be sorted by a single character? Someone will probably get it, i am out of guesses.

Omg it's obvious. "Can you see it?"

It's transparent UI!

You and I are both kinda right. The combat log on the left of the screen instead of the right, and one of the companions (Aloth, I believe) being highlighted to show his particular rolls in combat. There was no recent combat, so you don't see any rolls, but Adam is showing that you can individually select characters within the combat log and that the UI is customization.

(To clarify, this was directed at the 73 billion posts, in general, about Ydwin and the "problems" with her design.)

1. That every single aspect of a character can be justified from a historical point of view does not necessarily mean that it is very likely to find all these aspects together in one character. We have: Paleness and glasses and forensics and miniskirts and a rapier and the haircut and so on and so on

2. That something is historically correct does not necessarily mean, that it is not a stereotype. Especially from a modern point of view.

3. "She's pale because she's a Pale Elf": Conan the barbarian isn't half naked and very strong because he's a sexist stereotype. He is half naked and very strong because he's a barbarian.

4. "And is someone not allowed to have a backstory that has them being super interested in death/"forensics" of a sort". Of course it's allowed. It is as shallow as a backstory for a softcore porn and we already saw it one million times, but no one said it isn't allowed.

5. None of that is subjective. A stereotype stays a stereotype, even if your subjective taste tries to convince you otherwise.

P.S.: These threads don't stop for a reason: People like you, that would defend this stereotypical, crowdpleasing, lazy marketing move called Ydwin to the death, even if they know exactly what people mean, if they say it's anime or gothic or stereotypical.

P.P.S.: I like the new portrait of her. Actually I think she might not be that bad as a character. But she is a stereotype and I won't rest until that is perfectly clear to everyone.

I still say Adam posted the picture because of the feet of that guy in the upper left corner. I mean it looks as if we're getting to meet a new race with kangaroo feet or something...

Or it's a new ability of the monk. First you get the Long Pain (ranged weapons) and then you get the Long Feet (reach weapon). ;)

Ehehehe! Or the PoE1 "Boots of the Long March" make a reappearance in Deadfire.

Pretty sure I agree with Gromnir.  It seems like there are six characters.  If you zoom in the "red" icon doesn't look like an art style that fits with Eternity, looks like something out of Tyranny, also, there is already a simple crossed swords icon... wouldn't you click that when you wanted to see "everyone's log"?

That said the UI design is very different.  The colors are more blue grey than the normal browns, the doodads and graphical flourishes appear different, like many have said the log is also on the left not the right, so it is possible he is showing custom ui in action as well.

As a matter of fact there are two “main tabs” combat log represented by crosses sword icons, and conversation log represented by speech bubble icon. The same buttons were implemented in PoE1. Those portraits (and the red button) are additional filter options for the combat log. It is not new. This very same filter (and similar UI) was featured in th first “from directors feed “ update.

https://youtu.be/zFSsIEApvKo

See 2:35

Those buttons seem to toggle on and off specific characters (not sure if you can filter 2 or more at once). Red button showed all logs with Rotghast in them so I assume that it a filter for all logs regarding enemies in them (I doubt they will make separate buttons for each enemy as that would get messy).

I imagine that what Adam is showing off is modified UI. Seems like you can move individual elements of UI around.
