I'm just going to copy this post I made about the only romance I ever felt interested in in a game (though if we are talking about books I could give a list)

______

Ok, this is going to sound bizarre, but there is one romance option that most people on here might be intrested in: The Imoen Romance Mod for BG2. Yes yes, it did come the very infamous effed up one that made the rounds years ago, but it got completely reworked in 2015. A huge amount of content that adds to the story, rather than taking away or dominating it like most mod npcs do. The story can take, like, a bajillion different routes depending on whether you aren't interested, gender, how you view your relationship with Imoen, and if you break it off. Hell, it even does away with the whole incest angle. Extremely great mod, just hard to recommend without people thinking you're a pervy lunatic

these threads always makes us reflect 'pon a william butler yeats poem:

the darkness drops again but now i know
that twenty centuries of stony sleep
were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
and what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
slouches towards bethlehem to be born?

curious.

I only clicked in because I saw Gromnir's name on a "Player sexual companion" thread and knew it would be gold. I got this. Life is good.

Damn you people, This new information about Gjefa has made me want to create a new Dwarven Love-Machine with natural 19 CON. Actually, I think that concept might warrant an NPC in the game. Now where was that Dwarven Companion Recovery Front....

...and he shall be called Casanunda, Eora's 2nd greatest lover, repairer of stepladders.

The story of Gjefa is so inspiring.

I wonder...

Maybe Ydwin could be former escort. Escorts could be rouge to.

That is one way to make money, safer and more legal than pickpocketing.

Whore with heart of gold is troopy, but so is offspring of very important lord.

If we make fun of her past, she will insta leave party and leave some angry zombies for us to remember.

Tbh I am not even sure if you're being serious, but if you are... Just... No. Good God. Also, Rogue = pick-pocket might be a bit of an over-simplification, don't you think?

Her current concept works just fine. Interesting background, a class combination that fits said background, and a solid motivation for being in the region.

From the initial Sidekick update:

A strange pale elf cipher from "a lot of different places". Fascinated by animancy, Ydwin spends her free time examining fresh and not-so-fresh corpses. Though she has a charming and pleasant demeanor, new acquaintances are often shocked at her intimate familiarity with death and her dispassionate affect in the face of even the most grisly scenes.

From Obsidian's Instagram:

A little bit about Ydwin from Deadfire Narrative Designer, Carrie Patel: "Ydwin, our eighth and final companion (we hope!), is a pale elf rogue/cipher with extensive training as an animancer. She was born in a remote, lawless settlement in the White that Wends, where she witnessed the cruelest extremes of kith and nature. Her observations fueled a fascination with animancy, and she eventually made her way to the Vailian Republics to study. She's since become an accomplished master in the field, and advances with luminous adra in the Deadfire have drawn her to the archipelago."

I find it amusing that people still seem to think Rogues are automatically thieves and/or other criminals.  They are supposed to come from all walks of lives including courtesans, investigators etc.  Heodan is a law abiding merchant yet he is Rogue.  Its merely how they fight, Rogues use speed, wits, and subterfuge, and includes duelists and shock troops.    Ydwin is a rogue because she is witty and uses guile in combat.

I really enjoyed the romance/friendship more in Kotor 2 than Kotor 1.

I really don't want playersexual.

I never played The Witcher 3 because everything that I hear from that game is, "which bitch shall I bang?" and that is it...

Don't listen.

Really, you're missing out on an extraordinary milestone because of some distorted hearsay.

Yeah, second this.  Witcher 3 is definitely not that, it actually looks into and deals with sexism (along with racism and other isms).  The hearsay probably stems from the card collection from the first Witcher, which the developers admitted was a bad idea and have kept away from since.

To be fair, the kind of opportunistic personality that is required to excel at those skills often leads to mischief and criminal behavior. It's the opportunity that makes a thief. What you're good at has a tremendous influence on the kind of personality you develop, even more so if those skills happen to be the ones you have to rely upon to survive.

The most important step you take in your life is the next one.

You know, I don't know why I don't see more of the anti-PC romance people complaining about Gjefa. You know, the sex worker from the Salty Mast who, if you have 19 CON or higher, will be so impressed with your performance that she'll quit her job and move into your quarters at Caed Nua to have sex with you as much as you want for free for the rest of her life.

As I've observed before, on the sex issue, this (and I believe it extends to more than one of them does it not?) and Pillar's/Tyranny's "sex with prostitutes gives you stat bonuses" does not, I feel, give them the moral highground over Bioware on that front...!

They can both be equally silly about it all, if you ask me.

I don't think that is necessarily wrong, but I do think it needs to kept in mind.

They should write in lots of torrid romance and steamy hot sex... but only between NPCs. PC would be all by his little self in the big captain's cabin on the Defiant, while the rest of the gang gets it on belowdecks.

The reaction would be epic.

This for example, would be fracking hilarious.

(That said, I haven't played DA:O:A, DA2, (the latter two of which I even own) DAI and am highly unlikely to play the new ME game, sicne ME3's dreadful ending rather blotted their copy-book, especially after DA:O and everything prior to the last 15 minutes (except anything with Kai Leng) of Me trilogy were really good overall; so it may be they have gotten worse. But, if so, they did at least start down that slope with the best of intentions.)

Wel-l-l... yeah, but it also has a ton of gratuitous unsavoury scrap. The Whoreson Jr questline, the one where you and Triss infiltrate that one place and then that one thing happens, that one questline with the serial killer... and also they completely changed Triss's character; in W1-2 she was a tough-as-nails scary sorceress, in W3 she was a mopey wilting flower. (Yennefer kicks butt though.)

Don't get me wrong, W3 is a good game and definitely worth playing but IMO it would have benefitted greatly from a ruthless editor taking an ax to it. The writing and quest quality is uneven and there's a ton of treasure-hunt-filler type stuff there too. Sometimes-questionable sexual politics aside.

I have a project. It's a tabletop RPG. It's free. It's a work in progress. Find it here: www.brikoleur.com

I saw games getting ruined because of "romance" - if you think that romance is just sex...- and I saw games getting better because of it. I never played The Witcher 3 because everything that I hear from that game is, "which bitch shall I bang?" and that is it... Dragon Age Inquisition is just an awfull game that didn't know how to handle romance right, with the exception of Harding, every single romance feel rushed, it feels like they want to give sex to the main character as soon as possible... talking about sex... Mass Effect is just a sex simulator now, the trailers are out and people are preoccupied with the appearence of the team, one of the comments from the trailers: 'There was a Bioware dev. meeting with fans two years before, in that meeting one SJW girl stood up and asked the developers to make the female characters literally ugly and 'thick'. Seems like Bioware took it to the heart."  when your game community attracts people with this type of thoughts... that is when you know you destroyed your game...

BUT, you have some games with great romance options, like Dragon Age Origins, I don't know about you guys but for me all of the romances in that game felt natural and, the most important, felt right towards the character personality.

TL;DR: It's important that the romance don't get in the way, that the best thing about the game is the combat, the lore or the story and not if you can bang someone or not... oh... by the way, Xoti is not beautiful to you? Why? Well... maybe it's because your culture is different. The culture of your country really dictates what you like and don't like.

Exactly!!!

For me Ydwin is very pretty... She's a very attractive. A pretty good looking face!

Where you are from? Why Xoti is beautiful to you?

I'm from Brazil, her skin colour and hair are the main reason.

Whoreson Jr isn't meant to titilate you, its meant to horrify you, to show how women are abused in this world and how crap that is.  Triss we gonna disagree on, she was fine and would refer to several points if they weren't hideous spoilers for those who have yet to play the game, and any wilting was due to the situation between her and Geralt.  There's a lot of horrific stuff in there, but that's because they don't shy away from things like certain other companies do.  Do they also include stuff that is blatantly titilation?  Sure they do, but so do most companies and they even call themselves out on it several times.

I wouldn't want an editor to go through what we got, some of that filler helped the world seem even more alive!

****, they need to add Mystique as a companion to this game, if they gonna make everyone happy.

This is not that bad.

Shapechanger character. It fits the general rule of Main Hero collecting all kind of weirdos. Shapeshift could have some fun mechanic. Using different forms. tentacles as arms. Tail to trip... probably dont fit that eothas thing of xoti.

Fun resolution of quest to ask our companion to mimic guard captain and just let us in. Like Dudu from Witcher 3.

OMG: Druid kit with very limited magic, but shapeshift not dedicated to one beast, but instead being able to dynamicly mix different types and perks.

Also Xoti is hotti.

South America/Iberia women are preatty.

Xoti will bring light to our life.

And you cant say no to that eyes, and definetly no to that sick sickle

Nah, the entire Witcher series (games and books) are trash tier terrible. Geralt can't walk 5 feet without falling into a plot hole. Stay very far away.

Have you played TW 3? Because that is not trash tier. It's likely the best game ever made... I didn't dig TW 1 and 2 that much, they are okay. I haven't read the books. But TW 3 is a goddamn masterpiece.

I've played about 5 hours of each game before quitting in disgust. They are terrible games, with terrible writing and awful gameplay.

The books are worse than your average licensed fiction.

didn't like mind numbing witcher 2 combat.  thus ended our relationship with the witcher franchise. even so, our biggest gripe with witcher were how it mocked adolescent Gromnir.  am absolute certain a Gromnir at age thirteen woulda' thought witcher were the bestest game evar.  at thirteen it were easy to mistake bloody, gratuitous and cynical as being equivalent o' mature, when in point o' fact, the opposite were true.  witcher were clear designed to appeal to our inner thirteen-year-old, or at least a part o' our adolescent self we like to pretend never existed. unforgivable.

“It could have been--it didn't have to be obscene.... It could have been--a bird out of season, dropping bright-feathered on my shoulder.... It could have been a tongueless dwarf standing by the road to point the way.... I was prepared. But it's this, is it? No enigma, no dignity, nothing classical, portentous, only this--a comic pornographer and a rabble of prostitutes....”― Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

and

"is nothing wrong with b00bs and blood in a fantasy story.  conan the barbarian is still our favorite fantasy movie.  is nothing prudish 'bout our tastes.  sadly, there is folks who mistake a mature rating for mature story... and there ain't nothing particular noble or profound 'bout gratuitous violence and sex.  what kinda bizarro opposite-world do we live in where adding comic quantities o' b00bs and blood adds to legitimacy?  wanna use a clockwork orange and the postman always rings twice as examples o' media that is arguable mature?  hell, use fight club as such an example.  michelangelo put naked folks on the ceiling o' the sistine chapel, and he made man as beautiful as God.  that were a profound statement. witcher?  HA!"

witcher 2 combat were indefensible bad and the writing were, perhaps ironic, immature.  the mature rating for witcher games were a reference to adult content but nothing else. there ain't anything inherent wrong with such pandering. we can see the appeal o' indulging the inner adolescent.  can be good fun to give free reign to id, but call it what it is, no?

'course we see little chance o' poe2 becoming a kinda witcher 3.5. not gonna tilt imaginary windmills.

HA! Good Fun!

Disliking Witcher 3... that is interesting. And ok.

There are games which are technically great, just dont work for us. And Witcher 3 is technically great since it is so big, quest are not obvious, there are fun sideelements (Gwent, Horse Riding, Boat, Beard simulator). And combat is interactive and dynamic, and have some depth.

Witcher 2 is smaller but combat was already interesting, and it has some moments.

Not going to force anyone to play or praise it.
