Rays sweep the Tigers for the first time since 2008.

Lots of stuff going on:

  • This Matt Harvey thing is a mess
  • The Orioles and Red Sox games are must see TV now
  • The Cubs have returned to the mean.
  • The NL has a home run race cooking

Which is the bigger surprise? The Rockies are first? The Giants are last? The Yankees can hit?

Howard Terminal has been my top choice for a new Oakland ballpark. It's next to Jack London Square, right on the waterfront with Imperial Walker cranes incorprated directly on the design. Problem is public transportation, Amtrak tracks, and environmental cleanup and approvals.

Lake Merritt/Laney College will also be nice aesthetically and is close to BART. But the optics and politics will be tough for taking over community college property (sports > school).

Both sites will have prime commercial and residential property sprouting up independently of the ballpark next to the proposed locations as well.

Of course, it's great that this stadium project is privately financed, with the city and county chipping in the infrastructure costs with expected ROI on jobs, culture, and a revitalized urban scene.

Jeffry Loria will soon be gone as the owner of the Marlins. Thank God and good riddance. The day he took over that team was a dark one indeed. But it looks like he screwed the Dolphins and the Rays over good before leaving. His deal with the city & state over Marlins Park was so rotten the state of Florida will no longer allow any state owned assets to assist in sports projects. Once he crossed the bridge he burned it and pissed on the ashes.

With the MLS looking at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg and all the Tampa sites drying up it may be the Rays are boxed out of a new stadium anywhere in the Tampa Bay area. Which means the team will be sold and moved. Likely to Montreal. It's a shame it came to be that way. But anyone familiar with Vincent Namioli and how the Devil Rays came to be and how they ended up stuck in that ugly concrete tomb they play in will hardly be surprised at this

There is an old saying "What begins i misery tends to stay in misery". A fitting epitaph for the Rays if this ends like it looks like it will.

This is genius. Essentially a Season Ticket subscription for $20 a month.

Went ahead and took the plunge. I suppose it's as good as time as any to cord-cut my DirectTV. At least I'll do that when the NBA Playoffs are over.

Good thing you got in when you did Leferd. The A's ballpark passes are sold out: http://ballparkdigest.com/2017/05/17/as-ballpark-pass-sales-capped-at-2000-for-now/

In other news 43% of all Rays team ABs end in a walk, a SO, or a HR. They are leading the majors by 19%

You know what? Thank God for baseball. It's on literally every day. It takes all of the attention you wish to pay to it and fills it with drama and entertainment. For 9 beautiful innings and 3 peaceful hours you can forget the world is going to hell in a handbasket all around you. If you team wins it's great. If they get the absolute tar beaten out of them, like the Marlins did in LA last night, it does not matter. They will play again tomorrow.

I've got the Rays vs Yankees on the radio now and when that goes off the Marlins will play the Dodgers. And later tonight the Memphis Redbirds are in Fresno and I can catch that on the radio too.

Trump who? Never heard of him.

In other new the Rays took the Twins to 14 innings yesterday. I was doing some work around the house and had it on the radio all day.

Edison Volquez throws a no hitter for the fish. Albert Pujols hits HR 600 and the fan gives back the ball. What a great week. Until the Rays got swept in Seattle.

Scooter Gennett went 4-5 for the Reds vs the Cardinals last night. All four hits were dingers. He had 10 RBIs in that game. 10! The NL record is 12 set in '73 so no cigar there.

More proof that this is another juiced ball year.

  This? No way. Gennett is hitting .302 in 116 ABs. His slugging is .516 as of today so he;s got decent power but it's gap power only. He's got 7 HRs on the year and got four of those last night. The most he;s ever had in a season was 14 in almost 500 ABs.

This isn't proof of juiced balls, it's more likely proof the even a blind dog can find a bone every now and then.
