NFL 2017-2018 Season

Well, friends, the draft is just about over. All sorts of "analysis" will be coming out about how well teams did, but remember: one of the best draft classes by a team in recent history, the Seahawks' 2012 class, was widely panned as being the league-worst at the time. None of this "analysis" means a whit - check back in three years to see how your team really did today.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

Auf Wiedersehen to Jay Cutler as well, it seems...

NFL is dumb. Cutler is way better than a huge number of QBs starting let alone the garabge back ups.  Cutler was never the main reason why CHI never got to the Promised Land.

That's true, but he also never seems to stay healthy, and teams probably figure it is better to invest in a younger QB they can mold. Still seems pretty silly though. Maybe he's asking for too much money?

Probably true. Some teams (like CLE)  probably thought it is better to pay a crappy QB 1mil to get 2 wins then pay Cutler  $10mil for 5-6 wins. L0L That's what happened with the Jets I think who seemed to be the loudest etam thats eemed to be inetrested in - they simply went for a cheaper option.

Yeah, and now he gets paid like an additional 6.5 million from the Patriots - or rather, his family does. It's quite possible that this was the reason for him doing it after all, then.

he should not reap the legal benefits of an antiquated rule,"

This attorny is moronic. How is HE 'reaping the legal benefits'? He is dead. He is preusmably 6' under and likely since it is 2017 he was cremated. he is benefiting not at all. HOLY MOLY. The logic is DUMB.

I was just reading Bleacher Report and realclearsports.com. It seems a lot of folks are in a snit about ESPN bringing Hank Williams Jr. back to MNF.

Where ESPN went wrong is not so much that they leaned left in their politics, it's that they allowed sports and politics to mix at all. Sports fans come from every political stripe and it's one of the few things left we can all still relate to each other about. Reddest Republican and bluest Democrat can dismiss their differences for a moment and happily discuss how the Giants did last night. Mixing politics into sports only spoils that. Check your politics at the door and let us enjoy football, baseball, whatever.

Oh, and yes ESPN way overpaid for their broadcast rights. That didn't help either.

Par for the course for ESPN, it seems. Every time they're presented with a decision to make, it seems like they virtually always make the wrong one. The more people that cord-cut and sink that network, the better, methinks... Too bad it's owned by Disney and has little chance of ever truly (spectacularly) failing.

If you're saying that to me, then the reasons I dislike ESPN as a network have nothing to do with the guy's prior termination. Everything to do with them leading the way of tabloid levels of journalism in the sports sphere, and continuing to double-down on it even as their subscription numbers sink. And then you let half of your reporter and insider crew, guys with actual speaking/writing abilities and connections that can come up with legitimate stories, while saying morons like Bayless and Smith are good for ratings...

Yeah...serious mental illness often leads here. I'd rather have broken bones than chronic depression - the former will at least heal.

Jets fan here. Pic is accurate, but they should've done that last season. It was pretty clear that their 10-6 2015 record was due to having a soft schedule and taking a few teams by surprise. But the team was old, especially on offense (I don't think they had a single starter on offense under 30), and they went out last offseason and got even older players. Yeah. Didn't work out. Should've blown it up sooner.

For players getting arrested this off-season:

Bringing a gun to a waterpark, and then reaching for and displaying it just feet away from police...and without giving any warning. Not exactly the smartest move, Mr. Washington.

I'm just glad no-one was shot.

Yeah, not sure.

In other news, there will apparently be no more Viagra or Cialis commercials during football games! Hoorah! Not for the NFL's lack of trying, though - it was decided by those companies themselves.

From what I've heard from other Cowboys fans, he was kind of a fringe player with a nasty streak of fumblitis, and was likely to be cut anyways. I don't understand why teams don't ever have more strongly worded press releases, like, "We've heard about (controversy) with (player), and if it turns out to be true, they will be cut from the team. For the time being, we're waiting to hear more by allowing the justice system to do its job." Instead, it's always crap like this, or nonsense like, "We've heard about it, and we're monitoring the situation." That doesn't tell anyone anything about what you plan to do or your values as an organization.
