Homosexuality to Heterosexuality

I knew a lifelong lesbian girl who suddenly married a man, not because she suddenly wasn't attracted to women anymore but because she was more attracted to him. You act like if it happens it suddenly removes value from "real" homosexuals or something. It doesn't.

Maybe I'm misreading this, but I'd be wary of making a correlation between a heterosexual or homosexual person discovering they were bisexual and proof that heterosexuality or homosexuality could be 'cured'.

I'm not saying it could be cured. That implies there's something to cure. But it's perfectly possible for someone to be exclusively homosexual and identify as such for years, only to turn around and exclusively have perfectly happy heterosexual relationships after that. And vice versa. A man who has only ever been attracted to women and then suddenly becomes attracted to men is also perfectly possible. That doesn't suddenly make them "100% straight" or "100% gay" as if it's some binary setting, but for all intents and purposes they can go from homosexual behaviour to heterosexual behaviour and I'm not sure there is any other metric that matters in a practical sense. It's not something you can switch on and off or anything, but to me the simple truth is that not all people are attracted to the same things their entire lives, including gender.

Why would they have to be bisexual - why can't they just switch between two exclusionary states on a whim, and disprove the notion that homosexuality (or heterosexuality) is an immutable part of one's identity?

It can be. For some people it is. For some people it isn't.

I mean in an absolute sense, not for any one person in particular.

According to psychological journals there isn't a single provable case in history of world where person's sexuality has changed. Subject is very difficult to study because all able bodied people are physically capable to have sex with people the aren't attracted towards, from which prostitution and porn work as examples. And historically subject is even harder to study because homosexuality has and still is frowned all around world where heterosexuality is not just accepted but seen as the norm and encouraged through one's life. Also societies are mainly designed for heterosexuals from norms to laws. Which is reason why there are people who realize that they are homosexuals later in their life. Also bisexuality isn't not well understood by people, in way that lots of people see it as phase where person decides their sexuality, which is why they miss identified themselves in surveys based on their current relationship.

There isn't agreed on reason why people are sexually attracted towards anybody and sexual attraction is complex thing in sense that everybody seems to have different set of characteristics they are attracted towards. Which make it extremely difficult to pinpoint what comes from genetics and what comes from nurture especially when it is extremely hard to find commonalities in people's backgrounds that give same answers or who have same physical reactions in tests. Which is why study after study give different answers.

AFAIK, the definition of bisexuality is that one is attracted to both genders; my understanding is a practicioner of serial monogamy would still be 'bisexual' if their partners include men and women but in series.

I suppose someone who started with hetero/homosexual relationships exclusively then switched to the opposite exclusively could be argued to have 'found' their sexuality in their lives and self described as their final relationship type. A strong argument, however, could be made they are bisexual and found a preference in one relationship type vs the other.

Arguing the 'why' of their 'choice' of partners is irrelevant, though - if any of it could be considered relevant.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

Look at you, going all serious in a Lord of Flies Lords thread. Personally I'm much more interested in other sorts of useful transmutations, like fat to fit, water to wine, and of course, lead to gold.

Arguing the 'why' of their 'choice' of partners is irrelevant, though - if any of it could be considered relevant.

Unless you are solely interested in the science of it, in which case the 'why' is literally the only relevant thing. Apologies for the contextomy.

ps as a more curious aside, when Gromnir were looking for oldie daffy duck videos on youtube, we got a curious option:

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I too have a question: If a man goes through gender reassignment surgery and takes hormonal pills and stuff effectively making him a her, would her sleeping with women be gay or not?

I've got this conjecture that homosexuality is the result of a genetic modification for a beneficial survival trait, such as same sex bonding behavior leading to improved social cooperation, likewise causing a change to another trait, such as non-heterosexual preferences. It's not unknown for genetic modifications to cause multiple changes (for example, sickle cell anemia), and as long as the change provides a net benefit to the group then the trait is passed along. To me then, it's just part of nature. I suspect though that genetic engineering capabilities will eventually extinguish homosexuality, which may lead to greater social discord.

doubt it matters, but it does lead to curious problems.

am thinking we mentioned previous how our sister also went to berkeley.  she lived in a place called rochdale along with a bunch o' other women in one o' the 4-bedroom units.  were typically +6 women living in the unit and for two years our sister were the only heterosexual 'mongst them. for various reasons, Gromnir visited our sister frequent, so we became exposed to nuances o' the lgbt community in the bay area circa 1990.

anyways, one o' the rochdale roommates went through gender reassignment and her transition were smooth save for one small (big) problem.  see, jane were in love with mary (not their actual names) and mary liked jane.  unfortunate, when jane became a john, mary lost interest in john.  from john we learned a fair amount 'bout gender reassignment and the day-to-day issues o' a woman trying to live as a man post surgery, but more than anything we felt profound sympathy for john.  before surgery, mary assured john how she would love him no matter what he looked like on the outside.  watch john pine after mary were not the least bit comical.  were terrible sad.  john were so painful lonely, and when we knew him, he hadn't yet learned the manly art o' internalizing emotion.

just sad.

I've never heard of trans women who were exclusively attracted to other women but identified as heterosexuals.

Normal people have a feminine respective masculine inner ideal of what they want to spend the rest of their lives with, lets call it the inner waifu. Homosexuals have never developed such and project themselves on their inner waifu. Ergo, they want to screw themselves instead of overcoming their complexes of their masculine and feminine traits. Transsexuals on the other hand, wish to become their inner waifu, meaning that their complexes stem from different kind of complex. Everyone in-between are just confused about themselves.

Nevertheless in the grand scheme of things, it is of little matter as they make up such a little percentage of the population and what they do to themselves is of little matter outside their communities.

There's a video somewhere of Milo Yiannopoulos saying he would take a pill to go straight if it were an option.  He said that being gay has helped his professional career and that he feels uncomfortable raising kids (so has opted not to) as it would put them under pressure from the nurture perspective.  Worth watching.

I'm afraid your projecting yourself onto others. You're rationalizing how people like you (hetero-sexual) could desire to engage in 'different' kinds of sexual patterns without external material motivations. For some one who is implied (by others) to be a fascist from time-to-time you have an awfully egalitarian<-(not the correct use of the term, but best I could come up with) mindset regarding other people.

EDIT: And yes, I do understand your basic thesis. See the beginning of this episode of Lloynd in Space; I believe it conveys the baseline for your waifu theory: https://youtu.be/jABsC4dFLbs Skip the intro to 1:00

Here's a thought.

Does it matter? Let it go. Let people do what they want, with who they want, as long as no-one gets hurt (if they don't enjoy that). If it doesn't infringe on your relationships, why worry about it?

Edit: Plus, it's not like homosexuality is purely a human thing. It's out there in the animal kingdom. Monkeys do it, dolphins do it, a whole heap of animals will  bugger each other senseless regardless of the "normal" procreative urge. So it is part of nature.
