1.0.3.5 lock up during first launch after update

mccrispy

Question

Device: Hudl 2
OS: Android 5.1

I updated to the new build this morning, keen to try it out with all the bug fixes that have made my game such a drag recently, but when I launch the App it just sits at the "Unity splash screen". The Starknife isn't spinning and even after 20 minutes just sitting there, nothing appears to happening. Of course the device crashed during/after the install and had to be restarted, but even after a reinstall of the App, it still won't load.

I got mine to work.

Clear data for the following apps:

Play Store

Download Manager

Google Services Framework

Restart your tablet.

Fire up the Play Store app on tablet.

Download an app. I chose PBA bowling but this is not an endorsement.

Sign in to the game using your Google account.

Bowl three spares in a row. Miss a 9 pin, and forfeit game. Quit game.

On PC, go to play.Google.com, search for Pathfinder Adventures.

Install onto Tablet.

Those steps may or may not work.

Some of those steps may it may not be needed.

Good luck.

Further to this I remember that I had a similar problem with an earlier release and was completely unable to play the game until the next release came along. Unfortunately, I can't remember which release I had this problem with.

I'm pretty sure that the problem is that the additional data file isn't being loaded (or even downloaded after the uninstall/reinstall cycle). Normally, the additional file shows up as one of my "Large files" in the storage analyser App that I use, but there's  nothing showing and the Android Settings/Storage shows total storage for PACG as 63.36MB and I'm pretty sure that it is normally around 350MB.

So while this update may well have fixed the bugs in gameplay, I have no way to experience this as the game is dead in the water.

Hey Mccrispy,

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? You'll lose your quest mode save, but you can do this to save it and re-add it to your folder.

Getting game files:
Connect the Android Device to your PC.
Open Windows Explorer and open the device
Open the Android Folder, then data -> net.obsidian.pacg1 -> files
Copy the PACG1_SAVE_GAMES folder to your PC

I have the same problem.

Have had the same problem.

Uninstalled as I type.

Reinstalls 27 MB. Just the apk is downloaded. Will not load the .obb file.

That's why it hangs.

Did this during beta and with patch 1.0.3.1

Tried the same fix but it isn't working this time.

Read that thread, thanks for the pointer. I confirm that the .obb file is missing - it's the one my file manager App always calls out as one of the 5 largest file on the system.

My tablet is non-standard for sure - play.google.com is currently telling me that I have no devices, while at the same time listing all the Apps that I've installed on it (it's my only Android device, I'm a Windows Phone guy). It's also an Intel device, which has caused compatibility issues in the past (in the "not compatible with your device" manner - the very same device that it appears that I don't currently have!)

Can you guys please post your model numbers for your device?

Isn't the information in my first post enough? I try to be a good forum citizen, but if it's not enough, I can update the template that I used for reporting issue (yes, I post often enough to have a template :()

Nice one! Fixed it for me too. Looks like clearing the data for Google Play allows the device to register - it then shows up as "This app is compatible with your device." instead of "you don't have any devices". A push install from Play.Google.com and a device reboot and I can see on my Hudl "downloading additional file for PACG" and I'm back in.

Of course I've lost all my Quest experienced characters because I did the uninstall before Aarik responded and I hadn't realised that Quest progress was locally stored, unlike Story progress. That's a bummer! At least I can load the game... but having lost my Quest, I'm less motivated to play now :(
