Two iPads, Family Account, Bundle Purchase, One iPad no gold

navajas

Question

Hello,

Let's see if anyone can help with this. Order of events:

1) Downloaded the game on both iPads.

2) Played intros.

3) Bought bundle.

4) Completed one quest on iPad A (it's an Air 1), got gold checked amount.

5) Logged on with iPad B (it's a 4), saw that sure enough, after 4) above, the amount on iPad B had also incremented. Both iPads showed the same total gold amount AND each incremented the amount.

6) Also checked "Experienced" characters. Saw that yes, the characters from iPad A were indeed visible on iPad B, but unusable because of "Difficulty Tier" system.

7) Played for a couple of days. Sons mostly on iPad B, me mostly on iPad A. No issues. Amazing port of good game.

8} Decided to try Pass and Play with sons on iPad B. Noticed Experienced characters from iPad A were no longer visible on iPad B. Huh, that's weird.

9) No matter, we wanted to start new ones anyway. Did, played, BUT, my son noticed we were no longer being awarded gold for victories.

10) Checked connection to be sure. Yep.

11) Finished intro quest, were awarded no gold.

12) Checked quest selection interface pre-game and found all rewards for all difficulties for all scenarios listing only the little dot graphic for gold reward.

13) Signed onto iPad A to see if the same issue was found there. Nope, iPad A continues to function as normal.

14) FINALLY and even more worrisome, the vault on iPad A is NO LONGER AVAILABLE to iPad B.

Help would be greatly appreciated. I will gladly supply any further information that might aid in figuring out the above.

Okay, here is some information that I think you'll find useful:

  • The Game Center account FIRST used to login to the game will be used forever, for patch 1.0.0 and 1.0.2. We are working on ability to switch accounts.
  • Gold/story rewards/purchases/chests/collection cards should be synced between both devices, as long as they are the same account.
  •        This means if you completed Brigandoom and/or Poison Pill on iPad A, you will not be rewarded for it on iPad B. This is due to it being the same account and trying to reduce farming.
  •        If you want to essentially earn gold for repeating content, this is where Quest Mode would come in handy, which we just patched and made much more stable.
  • Experienced characters should be LOCAL only. Same with actual save game progression. For example, you may have completed Brigandoom and Poison Pill on device A, so you won't be rewarded on device B if you do it again, but that progression will not transfer.
  •        Save game syncing is something we are working on, so have no fear! We know it's a demanded feature!
  • Generally, the best fix for most solutions, is shutting the app down entirely (clearing it from recently used apps) and relaunching it. It'll resync all your data, especially when working with the same account on two devices.

The "sometimes this syncs, sometime this doesn't" aspect of your problem is troublesome, so I have notified our QA team and we're trying to get repro steps on it.

I hope I helped! If you have any more questions or concerns, ask away! d(^_^)b

And thank you for playing the game and being patient with us. Also your report and steps at which you specified how to reproduce it is splendid! :D

Personally, I'm mystified that the experienced characters crossed over.  According to everything I've read here, character party saves are local to the device and not shared on the cloud.

Beyond that, I don't have anything useful to add.

"I need a lie-down" is the new "I'll be in my bunk..."

I believe that gold and the vault contents are stored on the server and tied to your GameCenter ID (e-mail address).  You must be logged in to see your gold and Treasure Chest/Vault cards.

I also believe that characters and their progress are local to the device (for now - this will change in the future when they implement online multiplayer).

I'm not sure if your overall progression (e.g. have any of your characters beaten Scenario X on Difficulty Y) is stored on the server, or if that is also local to each device.

I'm not familiar with how GameCenter works when used across multiple devices.  It's possible that you have to completely close down the App on iPad A, and then launch the App on iPad B in order to "Log In" correctly with the same GameCenter ID.

Interesting situation. Maybe, because not all information is not synced, it can cause some conflicts with the content.

Is the same account is used at the same time... Witch one is the correct information?

It is like when two people make same document and the Person who save last overwrite anything that Person A has done so far.

Same kind of situation can happen here and cause real havok to the saved information.

I would have thought it was something like that were it not for the fact that on iPad B gold was never accumulated for victories nor rewarded for scenario completion.

That said, the problem mysteriously vanished at some point last night, and so far attempts to replicate it have failed. I've also not been able to get the "Experienced" character thing to happen again. I can't even figure out HOW I got to the point where it told me that they were incompatible due to "Difficulty Tier A" status.

So, I mean, on one hand, hooray! But on the other hand, What The Hell?

Well.... Spoke too soon. Same thing is happening again. Same problem on the same iPads. The problem NEVER happens on iPad A, which was the one that the original purchase was made on. Hmm.

This is a bummer.

That's very helpful information, and thank you for making my issue and concerns known to those to whom it may help.

For what it's worth we have a new wrinkle. Today on iPad B from above, my son complete a scenario and was rewarded with... guess what?

NEGATIVE one gold. Hahaha.

Weird.

Apologies for the delayed response! First up, not to worry about the negative one gold, it's the default (display only) value for it so we can detect network issues. Anytime that shows up, you aren't actually losing gold.

As for actually completing the scenario and not receiving the proper reward, we have been spending great amounts of time improving scenario completion issues in both story and quest mode. Some of them have been network side which is fortunate because they can be rolled out instantly to everyone. Others have to get rolled out with patches. We have 1.0.3 coming very soon which has a very big list of fixes. You can find the patch notes here: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/86992-patch-103-notes/
