Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

My lad has recently been rewatching the original trilogy, he told me that the Leia - Luke kiss at the Death Star bridge has been edited out, along with Han shooting Greedo first and a number of other things. Is this true? If so the South Park Indiana Jones episode really does spring to mind.

Edit: Missed a word "first."

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

They've been edited a lot over the years. Not sure how much because I haven't seen them in a very long time, but I know they replaced the original ghost of Anakin with the guy who played him in the prequels.

So I'm guessing the newest edition is still the tinkered versions?

I'd been wondering if a bluray upgrade would be worth it but if they're not releasing the unedited originals I'll stick with my DVDs that have the straight-from-laserdisc unedited versions on them (even if they display terribly on tv now).

I haven't watched any Star Wars movie since that last time I tried to get through special edition RotJ and got to the awful musical number. Shut it off and never looked back.

Clone Wars cartoon had good stuff in it, though. And hopefully so will this new one.

i heard that the latest disney blu ray release, contains the original theatrical version of the original trilogy without any of the editing done to it later (along with the edited version for who watns it)

The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder.

This is what I want. I want both. Though really I would prefer a version that takes the best of both. Take out Greedo shooting first, the Han Jabba conversation, and the pop song in Jabbas palace. The rest I'm ok with.

I've seen rumors of that, but no confirmation of a deal to make that happen.

interesting posters, where is LUKE?!

I can only hope that H.Ford will be keeping this movie on quality on par with the original 3 episodes. He is such a great actor and I hope he had his input in how Han would actually act and say. If he was bold enough to improvise in the original series at times, I do hope he did it so in this movie too

I've heard some people watch the movies in this order. IV A new Hope, V Empire, then II and III as a flash back for Vader when you find out who he is, and then VI to finish it off. It erases the first movie all together.

Interesting way, TBH the first movie seems a bit out of place. It does tell us of the Anakin's origin and the initial manipulations of the would be emperor, but I do not feel that it's critical to the plot line, especially with all that jar-jar and naboo crap.

I'm surprised no one has heard of the machete order.

I gotta ask: am I like the only person who found the lightsabre fights in the prequels to be boring?  Seriously, I hear people going "Well the film was bad but at least the lightsabre fight with X was good" and I'm like "Really?"  They just seem to go on forever, full of special effect jumping around, set in places that just don't evoke anything (and quite often I have no idea what the place they are fighting in is meant to be), etc.  I mean, Revenge of the Sith improved a bit but they still weren't that great.  My reaction to the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight went like this:

Yay!  This is actually quite cool!  The fight down the corridor is great!

Okay, getting a bit dragged out now.

Lots of Dragonball Z fighting going on now...

Did I phase out there for a moment?

Okay now the building is falling over...

Jumping around on boxes, so dramatic...not.

Stop yabbering about how you are gonna jump and jump!

Wow, that was anti-climactic, my boner's gone...

Seriously, too much reliance on special effects caused it to go all Dragonball Z and there's no tension.  The fight between Luke and Vader in Empire Strikes Back is still the best duel in the franchise, it showed Jedi powers while not going over the top with the special effects, and each bit felt meaningful to the film.  And this isn't nostalgia talking: I am for instance perfectly aware that the lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Vader in A New Hope was pretty much Geriatric's Fighting in the Old People's Home while the fight in Return of the Jedi never got going, they just teased you with some foreplay and then had like two seconds of fighting, though Return also had the issue that they basically pussified Vader anyway, turning him from a badass who Force-Choked half his command staff in Empire to some mopey ****, so there wasn't much to hope for anyway.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.
