Wasteland 2 really is impressive in what choices you can make, and how it will alter what happens.  I've come across quite a few branching paths where if I did something a different way, some things were completely cut off to me as an option.

The storyline just doesn't work for an open-world game. Bethesda again completely fails to instill a sense of urgency, even worse than Failout 3 since it's even more family oriented.

My son got kidnapped? lol just let me waste some months building settlements first and then I'll look for him.

Even Two Worlds 1/2 handled this kind of storyline much better.

Not sure if it makes sense to provide a sense of urgency in an open world game. "Oh noes, the world is gonna end if $BAD_GUY is not stopped! Ooooh, shiny dungeon!", just makes the player feel like an idiot for doing anything other than the main quest, especially if you are forced to level up at certain points (istr there being a main quest in Oblivion that refused to let me start it unless I reached a certain level, that's when I ditched the game)

I think it makes much more sense to provide an interesting* story, so players want to know how it plays out (eg. F:NV and even F3, since nothing in the introduction implied there was a rush in finding your dad again, which left of his own volition, assuming my memory isn't failing me anyway) without explicitly adding time pressure (so end-of-world-scenarios, kidnappings etc are out, really). Having (fake) time pressure just doesn't work really well in an open world game and real time pressure generally isn't appreciated all that much (*cough* water chip *cough*)

On another note, seems I fixed my Skyrim issues (*knocks on wood*) so yay, maybe I'll get those two last achievements after all...

I'm having a blast with Victor Vran, it's a really fun game.  It reminds me quite a bit of Dungeon Siege 3 in the way the gameplay feels.  I can also now confidently say that I'll probably never use my XBOX 360 Controller again except in case of emergency, it's essentially obsolete.  Now that I've gotten really used to it, I prefer the Steam Controller in every conceivable way.  Granted, Victor Vran is a game designed to be used with a controller, so my 360 Controller would work just fine, and the game, to its credit, even has a camera turn sensitivity slider in-game, but with the impressively robust Steam Controller config utility I can fine tune the sensitivity, dead zone, behavior of everything to a really fine degree, plus I can reconfigure button bindings in the case where a game doesn't let you reconfigure controller bindings, which is, sadly, all too often.  It was a little awkward at first, just because I was so hard wired to the layout of a 360 Controller for so many years, but now that I've rewired my brain, it's great.

Played some more Fallout 4. I am starting to like it more than I initially did. I have left the main quest untouched and haven't visited Diamond City yet, instead I did some side-quests, and collected some junk to upgrade my weapons and my crib at Sanctuary. Some of the side-quests and objectives that you encounter during your travels are quite interesting.

For instance: I met this other vault dweller that was being escorted as a prisoner by some super mutants. After getting rid of the super mutants he thanked me and ran towards another direction, I check my map and the location of his vault is now marked on my map. I check out the Vault but they decided not to let me in(after I failed the persuasion attempt) and now I have to fetch something for them to prove my loyalty if I want them to let me in. The characters seem to have more personality compared to Fallout 3.

I also came across a new companion called Strong. The quest where you meet him is pretty awesome too.

Give Fallout 4 some time and it will get better. Also check out some guides for crafting on youtube. Eurogamer.net had a few nice videos about crafting and companions and such.

Are Mirelurk hunters supposed to be this tough? Met one with a skull next to its name, had to use the Fat man to take it out.

There's also an odd place inhabited by robots, if you fail charisma checks and piss off the leader he attacks. I couldn't even put a dent in his HP bar with my best weapon.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

They are quite annoying. I did that quest with the Minutemen where you are supposed to clean up a fortress. Good lord, there were a crap-ton of those things which are hard to kill and then suddenly one of those legendary Mirelurks shows up and while I am running away from the damn thing an even bigger Mirelurk(The Mirelurk Queen) shows up and starts hitting me with some sort of corrosive thing from the distance which drains my health and kills me with 2 hits! Gotta try taking that fortress with the Power Armor and the Minigun equipped later. The poor Minutemen are still waiting for me near the fortress!

Tabletop Simulator - this little basic Steam physics game let's you play any card or board game, that you mod in, in a virtual environment. Which is awesome for me and my friends, as we're spread out over the country but still wanna play boardgames, MtG etc with each other..

Seriously, if you're in a similar situation look it up!

Here's an example of a group (a little annoying) playing Card Against Humanity.

I caved and bought Fallout 4 and played it last night. I blame you jerks if I don't like it.

It's interesting, but I'm not really hooked. Some high old woman who claims she sees things isn't my idea of compelling storytelling.

Playing Fallout 4 (obviously) and it just looks horrible on Ultra settings. I just recently finished GTA5 and Witcher 3 and both of those games make Fallout4 look like a decade old game.

There are some spectacular views to be had but yeah, from some angles it looks freaking awful.

And speaking of mirelurks, is fighting in the water a thing yet? Or is it once again just a case of it turning into a slightly awkward staring contest with the mirelurk if you're both swimming? :p

Nope, staring contests are back :p

I'm guessing those initial (utterly forgettable) characters are just fluff to fill your first settlement.  You'll start meeting more interesting ones once you go deeper into the world.

Haven't found anything yet that raises poison resistance. Bloodbugs are annoying as well.

Though I think the entire North east corner is a more high level area.

This. Sanctuary is basically a hub for collecting junk and crafting/building. The real show is outside of Sanctuary.

I made peace between religious nuts and hookers!  I'm such a good Desert Ranger.

I haven't started Wasteland 2 yet but this make me want to drop everything and give it a go. Even the premise of that quest sounds hilarious.

My parents are visiting and I just got the new desktop in. Once I am on my own and have finished setting everything up, I shall restore the balance between Fallout 4 and Mordheim posts in this thread. Nay, on this whole forum.

So has anyone started playing the latest torture porn and endangered species slaughtering simulator? I'm asking as i'm thinking of either getting the kids the Uncharted collection or the two Tomb Raider games for christmas, along with whichever console seems better value and stocked with titles.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

I'm currently playing a lot of games, not really successfully.  I have a game going in Wasteland 2 DC which I'm really enjoying quite a bit and after starting Divinity: OSEE on the PS4, after 15 hours, I just can't stop playing.  All the enhancements plus the great controls make this game a gem on the couch.  I've started a character in Fallout 4, but haven't been drawn into it just yet.

Other than that, playing some Co-op with a friend in Grim Dawn and just enjoying the heck out of that game.  Think we hit level 39 so far and just having a ball.  Ahhh, real life stop taking my time away from me:)

Loving Wasteland 2, but man does it crash a lot.  Tonight alone it crashed to the main menu 4 times.  One time it crashed right after a big, tough battle but before I had a chance to save it.

I think it's less stable since the latest patch.  I didn't have all these crashes prior to the recent install.

Opponent got extremly lucky with crits this evening. First one enemy got three crits in a row against my Sister Superior, then another got two crits, both doing their max damage against Truda, one of my original Novices. She sruvived, but she lost her shield arm. She has trained as a heavy armour, shield expert...

Still Victor Vran, that game is so much fun.  I'm really happy somebody took the loot em up in a little bit different direction.  There are so many Diablo clones out there, and for good reason, it's a great formula, but it's refreshing to play a game in that genre that does thing differently.

I'm really thinking hard about getting Mordheim. I loved the tabletop game. Small band turn based fighting. Huzzah!

Finished Wasteland 2.  Great overall game.  The final battle was kind of anti-climactic because it was just a repeat of previous battles against robots, and because it was easy in comparison to previous battles.

I'll probably play through a second time just to see how things pan out choosing different options in quests.

If you haven't check out my thorough write-up on page 19 of this thread. I tried to be as objective as possible.

Since that post they added the auto-save and did work on the AI.

But the game has a problem with R9 cards. Now that I am on my desktop I got graphic errors :(

I guess the game can get repetitive in visuals, due to the two districts and re-use of assets. But the randomization on the maps does actually make similar looking maps play different.
